An't it here yet by erebrus

made by erebrus for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

In "An't you here yet?" you play as a young office courier on his first day on the job. Your goal is to deliver packages timely to your co-workers. To know who is the recipient of these packages, you will have to ask around. However, this is a toxic work environment, and if you bother people too much, they will become increasingly rude to you. You better deliver packages in time if you want to keep them happy and helpful. You win the game if you survive until the end of your first day. You lose if you accumulate too many undelivered packages or you become too indebted to the company (ah yes, because you will have to pay for packages that are very late).

REMEMBER: Talk to your colleagues :) Each run they are procedural generated so they will always be different.

Controls:

  • left/right arrows - move left and right
  • up/down arrows - move down/up stairs or elevator
  • A - interact key - select a package and ask a colleague about it
  • Z - pick up a package
  • X - deliver a package
  • Space - Jump. Careful, you might lose your balance if you are loaded.

We wanted to have a balance mini game and more social interactions but...we ran out of time... we didn't even have time to properly balance the game...

We had problems uploading the win exe file. You can download the game for Mac or Windows on the same itch page.

Very good art and music. feel very polished. The gameplay was a little boring and confusing something but still very enjoyable.

Great art. Cant work out the elevator for quite a while but still managed to deliver a package. Then I struggle to pick up the package near the elevator button and fall into the elevator well. Great fun!

haha cute! the theme is really interesting and the title is great lol. the graphics are also really nice! (as a few people mentioned: you can exit the elevator while its in motion and then later on jump into the hole and out of the map haha) anyway, good job!

Lovely graphics, incredibly polished, extremely unintuitive controls made the bumbling-intern-everyone-is-annoyed-at experience feel very real. I kept asking people about the package while wanting to give it to them, or giving them a package when I wanted to ask them about it, lol. There's great potential here, a bit of user experience work this game would be a true gem.

Those ants are mean! Great vibe, it took me a little while to understand what to do.

@zerovirus Hehe, yeah controls could use some work.. Was a struggle to compact the design into something that allowed you to select a delivery and get the necessary context. Thinking on it now it may have been better to tuck both asking and delivery into the same button with a UI option to choose and have triggers to switch the active delivery. Thanks for playing!

Cool graphics. I like the idea of the game, and the audio suits the game very well.

There is no ui element that let me know how much time I have left, and I think it would be better for feedback to the player. I think the controls should be something more memorable, because A, Z, X, seem a little arbitrary to me, and I need to check the instructions from time to time.

Overall a nice game, great job!

Very interesting game with cool art, although i found it very confusing and somewhat *bugged* when it comes to going up and down the floors

The art and animation in this game is wonderfully well done. I love their little ant voices and the music was really great. The control scheme was a little weird having 'A' be interact on keyboard but that's my only gripe. Super polished. Fantastic job!

Liked the pixel art with the different ants and the decorations in the different departments.

The controls took a lot of getting used to, I kept getting confused between asking and delivering. The doors were a bit annoying sometimes, I had to move away and come back to use them

@chybby Yeaaah.. sorry.. tried to hotfix it earlier, but it was a stupid fix. Got an actual fix incoming later today. Thanks for playing! :)

Quite nice, but looking where you have to deliver the packages takes too much time for no good reason

Good game! The art and music fit the theme and gameplay so well! I loved all the interactions you get from the ants. Looking for stuff was a bit difficult but overall i enjoyed playing!

Amazing pixel art and VFX! Very impressive what your team could do in the time. Loved all the little movements and bounce and animations. The environment was delightful to look at. The sound was pretty good as well. I could not get very far into the game due to extreme difficulty with the controls however. Between controls that seemed very unintuitive on keyboard and getting lost trying to deliver packages-- I know that's the core mechanic!-- I was frustrated too quickly. I also found that the elevator controls were not responsive and I had to move around a lot to get them to work.

Also missed opportunity calling it "Ant resources" instead of "human resources."

@thesmellofoxygen , missed opportunity indeed! Sorry about the controls. You are right. At the end we were too bogged down to improve it properly. Of course, on the next day it was clear to us how to do it 10 times better...
