Bunny Inferno by Stanleys_Stoop
This is my first LD entry and I'm proud of what I was able to accomplish. There was only around 27 hours left to the Compo when I realized it was already underway so I decided to stay small. I chose to use Game Maker because I recently picked it back up after almost 10 years and taking a break from HTML5/Javascript.
I'm not to sure how well I stuck to the theme. The idea at the beginning was that the player was a witch rounding up all the bunnies to create some sort of evil witch brew. Eh, now it's more like you are just an evil jerk that likes to watch bunnies burn. That's monster-ish, right?
The aim of the game is simple. You control the platform using the mouse and must "help" the bunnies cross the chasm... and straight into a fire pit. If you let 5 bunnies escape it's game over. There are two power ups that the player can collect to help them in their bunny destruction spree; an extra life and paddle growth. Power ups appear periodically and fall down the screen.
NOTES:
I used Paint.NET for all the sprite work and Audacity for all sounds. All sound effects, except the background music, were made using my voice and then tweaking the audio. So that's neat I think.
Ok, the background music is horrible. I tried recording a few guitar chords using a low-quality mic and the recording turned out bad. So I added a few effects and tweaked it in Audacity and the result... well.
Given a positive response towards the game and/or depending on my motivation to continue I would add a few more animations, a handful of power ups and better background music.
Thanks to everyone who checks out the game!
Edit: I had a few hours left after waking up this morning so I decided to tweak the graphics a bit and add a few more power ups, sfx, etc. Now there are Life Steal, Nuke, and Ember power ups. (Screen shots do not show changes.)
