PhishScape by Jezzamon

made by Jezzamon for Ludum Dare 58 (JAM)

PhishScape -- A little runescape like game about hacking people's accounts and collecting their passwords.

This game is pretty janky, but it's at least playable! Definitely didn't have time to make it feel "finished" this time... Hope you enjoy it anyway :)

Controls: Double click to open an application. In PhishScape, click to interact with things - characters, enemies, doors, etc.

Perhaps I shall flesh this out more, if people like the concept

Great job man. Perfectly hits that nostalgic itch and also a funny game mechanic of stealing passwords. I didn't get to figure out how to get the key to the door but you said the game wasn't finished so maybe that's just the end of the game, or I'm blind. Either way, I enjoyed it, well done!

Pretty fun to do! At moments I forgot I was playing a game in a game that I tried to alt-tab into the notepad. This is pretty well done actually. To hack into accounts to progress. Some sounds would have been nice to make the game feel more alive

@shores you need to login to the other player's account. Every player has a unique inventory it seems. So one of them has a key

@wouter52 While playing I figured that might be the case, I assumed the items listen on top right of the game is your inventory, if it wasn't then I missed the true inventory. From the 3 players that were in the first area, I only managed to hack one of them, and that account only had 30 gold and a red potion(?).

The fact this works at times in the real world is saddening :no_mouth: Got a password, got a password via being a mod and got a password via the fake cloak. Did forget at the start pressing a character that aint a monster will let you talk, not fight. I am really missing sound effects in this game, but the intent is a fun concept. Does remind me of the old games... And now I feel old  The game currently seems to be just a tutorial kind, it would be interesting to see when the difficulty scales and you get more puzzles to solve.

@shores Yeah, there are two characters there and it's the other one that has the key!
This game is beatable, and fairly clear when you beat it :)

That's an interesting idea. At first I thought those other players were actual real players... until I engaged the conversation with them
Very nice take on the theme. Well done!

I like this original take on the theme. I collected every account I could, even when I had opened all the doors. Oh, and the guys I hacked had more money after I "borrowed" their account, so, after all, they not losed anything at the end. :P
Good job!
