The Garbage-Man Of New Trash City by kenevil1
The fun’s over, get back to work!
You are the Garbage Man, New Trash City’s last defense against the mountains of rubbish piling up on every corner. With the help of your rusty, trusty vacuum-fitted truck, it’s up to you to get as much garbage off the streets as possible before your shift is over. If your job wasn’t already tough enough, your boss is always calling you, interrupting your flow (but you know if you don’t answer you’ll get fired!). How long can you last on New Trash City’s toughest job?

How to play:
Use your keyboard and mouse to control the garbage truck and the vacuum hose to drive around the city and collect trash.
Earn money for upgrades based on the amount of trash you collect.
Press the correct keys to answer the boss’s calls as fast as possible or it’s game over!
Keep your eyes out for a tempting offer from a mysterious caller…

But it was a little hard to understand the controls)
Absolutely love the dialog and voice acting + character art. this game's energy and vibe are really memorable!
Ended with 485 as my best run
But thats a fun implementation!
But hard :)
Sometimes it was unclear if I could drive on this tile or not, I seemed to drive on top of building walls sometimes. Also, some I couldn't pick up big pile of garbage blocking entire streets. I guess it's by design, it just feels weird not being able to collect garbage as a garbage collector.
Still, I loved the vibe and interactive menu was a nice touch!
It's got that classic arcade toughness that just wants to take my money. Your gross character design and voice acting is banging too.
I sometimes had issues though recognizing the trash collectibles, especially if they spawned on buildings. Maybe they could have some outline or wobble around or some other visual indicator?
Maybe there was an upgrade that made them easier to see, but I have to admit, I did not have much time reading the upgrade choices, since the timer continued ticking while choosing and I just picked on feeling.
Also, props for doing voice acting on a jam game. It's extremely hilarious. Loved it.
@andreas-roschal Thanks for the ideas! Much appreciated
This is the type of project that begs for more attempts. I loved the atmosphere, and the vo was priceless (though I wish it was skippable after the first time, only because my page refreshed an I had to start over.) Only real complain was that the turning radius and the street width (as others have mentioned) seemed to not be conducive to solid movement, and took away from my desire to use the boost. Generally though, this is an awesome project, great work!
Gameplay wise it was mildly frustrating to lose when you're middle of reading the guides. I feel you could have started the timer after a button was pressed and you knew player was ready to play. There also seemed to be some random time losses. For example, I dumped some trash and got more time (according to the UI) but shortly after boom - it was game over. Odd.
The streets felt small for the car.
Good work regardless!
The dialogue was hilarious. The shouting-from-the-back-room lines were my favorite. Great work!
But I did have problems with the controls, which felt unresponsive and slippery. It was really hard to navigate, but also a lot of times I've had just bad luck trying to find and deliver garbage. It's a shame because the dialogues were really funny.
Congrats on finishing the game!
@threeli Glad you enjoyed the vibe! We tried to make the opening dialogue automatically skip on multiple attempts but I guess we overlooked returning players. Good point on the boost btw, I'll let the team know.
@coderaurus You're right, and I also ran into the dialogues issue a few times playing the game. It really just comes down to running out of time at the end of the jam. But the random loss is odd; we've heard a few similar comments so we'll make sure to look into it further.
The voice acting was very funny. "I didn't hire you to read, just step on the gaaaas" haha
