HAVE A NICE REAP

A rogue-like game inspired by games such as Love me with the style of games like Dont starve

STORY

Take control of Grimmy, a Grim Reaper sent to a small town during the Rapture to guide the souls of the fallen townsfolk to the afterlife. Navigate through chaos against time, hellish rifts, and other Grim Reapers while the world sinks into oblivion forever.

Ensure Grimmy spends the end of days reaping with prestige!

HOW TO PLAY

Keyboard: * WASD / Arrow Keys - Moves your character around * E - Tap and hold to collect souls * E - Press repeatedly when engaged against another Reaper to gain control of a soul being competed.

Controller: * Left Stick - Moves your character around * West Face Button - Tap and hold to collect souls * West Face Button - Press repeatedly when engaged against another Reaper to gain control of a soul being competed.

Collect souls and bring them to the green portals scattered around the map, but be careful, you can guide a limited amount of souls at a time. Each time you complete a phase you can upgrade your character. Keep reaping, keep upgrading.

Great art and concept! The music fits the theme really well, and I love how you added variety of people panicking and running around, it makes the scene feel more alive. Awesome work!

yeah the qte was really hard, and i am no especially bad at it normally. Even with an upgrade i struggled a little bit, so much so that i leaved the reapers win the fights so it didn’t take so long. But other than that a pretty solid entry, with nice graphics and sounds.

The visuals are commendable, and I think this game could be a great solution for a couple of evenings, especially if it's completed. QTE is impossible to win without a fairly strong level of skill. I would like the music to be cyclical. Overall, the game feels well-balanced.

The E key is not a very good key to mash tho, space bar might be more practical

Nice apocalytic mood. Got to level 10 and then lost before getting like 7 souls more. The hell portals or what ever were little punishing but i like the addition. I went full speed build so i kinda just had to dodge other reapoers, the spamming e felt kinda annoying so i just didnt even want to try it.
There is nice feedback when collecting souls and the direction indicator is nice. Too bad there is lot of things sometimes hidden behind buildings.
Would have enjoyed more if the audio was more looped and not so clear cut in middle, but it really elevated the athmoshpere.

Very cool and atmospheric, I really liked the sounds and the ghost sprites. I was not a big fan of the "combat" though, it hardly seemed worth it. The red portals were a great addition though, so you had to make sure to navigate around them well. The first time my ghosts got sucked up I was a bit confused as to what had happend. Good job on creating this great entry!

It's a very interesting game, but the elements of fighting other reapers are too difficult.

QTE is impossible to complete, would have loved if the interact button was something else like space or LMB as it felt cramped to play. I was quite confused with not having a "kill" action and instead needed to wait around for the souls to pop out.

Simple game mechanics, neat graphics, nice atmosphere. While the concept was simple, I felt a bit frustrated, when it came to the quick time events, where you initially were definitely too weak and just wasted time on a lost fight anyway. The radius of the red portals were also sometimes frustrating, you were not even close and your souls got sucked in. This was especially irritating, when you were collecting souls close to it.

Other than that I enjoyed my reap. Nice entry!

Great art! I nearly destroyed my keyboard at the beginning tho ahah
I think the game would need a bit of a higher rythm, like going a faster at first and having less time to collect souls, but that might just be a matter of taste. Also maybe it needs a key to drop the souls, because when you got too much you're just very slow and it can be frustrating to either wait or find a portal while being that slow.

Nice game, had a great time. Very detailed city and sprites. I love the red rain falling down and the chaos overall. Works well with the theme! I also like the roguelike aspects of and how you improve your character overtime. Good job!

Cool game! The Grim Reaper is so hot. 😁 Great work with characters and environment. There is a lot of stuff going on in the background, you managed to create the chaos really well.

I managed to get to stage 11, here are my stats:

The only thing I disliked about the game was button mashing. It really felt so annoying to me, especially because the timer is ticking. Would be cool if I could challenge another Grim Reaper for a bullet chess match instead. 😂

The other reapers were an unnecessary annoyance rather than rivals. They don't even steal your soul if they "win", which they do every time unless you have at least 3 combat upgrades. The other upgrades feel very inconsequential. Great graphics!

Great fun game! The visuals were really amazing! I wish that there was some reward from winning against other reapers though. I felt like most of the time it was better to just avoid them and wait for them to leave instead of fighting them.

Good game! It came together nicely! I were just a couple souls short of making it to phase 12 :slight_smile:

I really liked that you didn't sleep on sound effects! The world also felt very populated with particles and lots of people running around!

I think the fire pits that killed souls had to big radius, and I think it would be nice to actually have it visualized. It took me a little while understanding what was going on, so maybe a circle around them would have made it clearer. I also thought the fighting souls was too hard, I think I raised the fighting ability twice but still had trouble mashing fast enough so I just avoided fighting after that. The music were really nice, but I think the loop could have been just a little bit longer. I also felt I could hear where the cut was which pulled my attention alot to it.

But I have no doubt you'd iron out the quirks if we just had a couple of hours more. The balancing is so hard to find time for in these game jams :/ Overall it felt quite complete and I'm very impressed!

As many already said E was maybe not the best choice and fighting in the beginning was nearly impossible for me. But maybe I'm just lacking skill. :D But nevertheless this was a fun game!
