iMonster by chkkll

[raw]
made by chkkll for LD33 (JAM)
In this dungeon crawler parody, you explore the purpose of being a monster.
The dungeon is generated procedurally with endless venturing parties..

Arrow keys to "MOVE"
Space key to "ATTACK"

Edit: Thanks a lot for all the comments and critics. Fixed the issues of enemies walking into walls and player moving into skull piles. I agree that game needs an ending or an award progression. Initial idea was to award player with a new hat for killing a bunch of enemies and let her/him examine their trophies in front of the mirror :)

Love the Dark Engine style to the game and the sounds are very classic styled.

The visuals and the feel of the movement are great. It took me a really long time to find any enemies to attack, however - and when I did they promptly walked through a wall and out of my reach. But I enjoyed stomping around and being a monster regardless!

This is great! I love the art, especially how the groups of heroes have different classes as the old 4 party member dungeon crawlers had. The sound and music was pretty nice too. I would have liked to see a bit more variety in the scenery and enemies but overall it was really well presented.

I am in love with this style, the movement and playstyle are super nice and refined, just needs more game! I can see where you are going with this, and you should totes develop it out more.

The BEST game I have played this LD, the movement mechanics are SO clever and fluid and the art style is just amazing, I love that audio it is so satisfying. This could be made into a great turn based strategy type thing

Interesting games. Graphic are amazing, I like how you used the sprites on 3D. Controls and gameplay are original too. It would be great if you keep developing it!

Loved the mirror! The whole thing felt right, the controls were nice and meaty, it had a very classic feeling to it.

Awesome! The little sway when you move makes it feel really good to play. I just wish there was a way for the adventurers to fight back, and some kind of end to the level.

The visual side and the controls are just amazing! Well done. The next thing would be to introduce some challenge. The enemies now don't even attack or present any danger.

Ennemies just go inside the walls a bit tricky. But very nice engine and art. Audio is great too. Well done.

The style of the game was really cool, I particularly liked the mirror. Controls and animation were really slick. Could have used some opposition or an end goal though, but it stands pretty well on its own. Cool & fitting music!

I really liked the graphics and the feeling of the game. I played it for almost 15 mins which is great. I still fell like it needs an ending, at least for me never ended. Maybe you could add a way to die, or scoring system and timing, something to make you achieve something. Over all great game, keep it up.

The movement feels so good. Great graphics and sound too. Who let all these level 1 adventurers in my level 9 dungeon?!
I noticed you can walk backwards through skull piles but not forwards (not that it has any consequence).

LOVED IT! Beautiful, great music, easy mechanics. Could use a proper lose condition, but even without it it's absolutely amazing. Also, I noticed that you can walk through the pile of skulls... by moving backwards :D

Maybe I'm missing something but... players can't attack you? Is there something to do other than killing them (too easily I would say) ?
I love the graphics and the bloody floor is freaking rad, the music is great too. But gameplay wise, something is missing

Gosh darn it, if this isn't the best game I've played in Ludum Dare so far. Fantastic art style, great music, incredibly fun gameplay and gives me the perfect feeling of being a monster. Very very well done.

It feels great how fast you can run, and how the camera shakes. The visuals are really cool, and the sound as well. There seems to be no answer to what the purpose of the monster might be - I think its a fun idea, but not so clear unless you read the description. Maybe you could somewhat comunicate such an idea by placing more mirrors in the game? That is the place for... reflection.

The music, atmosphere and old school raycast 3d in this game is awesome. But, I feel like it needs a bit more challenge for it to be a bit more cooler. Other than that great work.

Totally awesome, it controls great, the visuals are simple yet beautiful i dig the fact that this blends the tile based old dungeon crawlers with a more action oriented real time gameplay reminiscent of doom, with more content this will certainly be a super game, well done :)

I liked the pixel art graphics combined with 3D scenarios, and the music completes a very good ambience.

However the game is a bit empty of mechanics. Also found a bit tiring pushing up key every time to advance a square on the map, you should allow holding the key.

This is a good start engine for dungeon crawling games, it could become something interesting if it is developed.

Some walls are not rendered at all (WebGL version), and the adventurers not respecting the laws op physics (sometimes enter walls).
Would be much more interesting if the opponent would do anything besides moving. :) But the theme and graphics is strong. Good job.

AWESOME!
This game really gives the pleasure of being a monster!! :D

The movement of the camera during each step, with sound effects, and music, and style ... it is already enough to make the game hyper fun to play!

I just saw... some heroes passing right trough walls... but after all the procedural generation it remains awesome! :D

I love how dynamic and alive the game feels - you've really captured the feeling of being a massive, powerful beast and I think that's an amazing start, What the game vitally needs though is a way to lose as well as either scoring or a win condition. I'm sure if I were the master of a dungeon like this, I'd want to fight foes who could pose a challenge!

I love the visuals and audio you've created for the game, they work so well! Great work guys, I'd love to see this fleshed out!

Very nice game! It has a great feel to it. The graphics, gameplay, and audio all work well together. I like how when you move the camera shakes around a little, and it makes kind of a "squish" sound. I would love to see this developed into a larger game.

I like the old first person square grid - it's been a while since I've really seen one of those. The walls didn't render in the WebGL version for me initially (Firefox 34), but worked in an updated version (39). A good feel to it!

The presentation was lovely! The simple, yet well execute aesthetic was fantastic and the music as simple as it might be, added a lot of atmosphere and didn't get annoying even though it was only a couple of notes. The movement was done very nicely and I liked the mirror effect. The game would have benefitted from some more challenge and rewards however. Perhaps a way for the enemies to actually hurt you? Other than that, very nice entry!

Very polished dungeon crawler. Very easy to get lost since every room looks the same. Would have been more fun if a health system and game over was implemented. Being an immortal monster isn't exactly what I would call fun (though I understand the time constraint).

Very impressive work. Hope to see it done!

Finally a cool Unity game. Those are very rare! And this one is especially cool. The movement swing feels very monstery, the art style looks like an actual raycaster...

Too bad there is no ending or score or even enemies fighting back.

I really like the art style and movement, though it does remind me why minimaps became so ubiquitous. It would have been nice to have some sort of goal or progression, but as it is it was fun to just slaughter bands of adventurers.

Lot's of potential I think. Gets a bit tedious in current form, but with some polish could be something cool with more variety in adventurer parties or perhaps select various monsters with variable play styles.

very nice entry. could be improved with more adventurer diversity. not really challenging: I wasn't hurt by the heroes. Is it intended ? The ambience is amazing. This could become a great game. I love dthe detail like the mirror and the way the monster moves in the dungeon. Great audio too.
