Saving Captain Cino by StudioCherno

Our game is about delivering coffee in a stressful setting. Going to write more here after a nice long sleep...
But basically - you're in a war zone and your General has ordered coffee. You've been tasked with delivering it. Be careful, and make sure there's something left in the cup when you arrive.
Controls (keyboard / controller): - Move: WASD / left joystick - Jump: Space / A / Cross - Shoot: Left mouse button / right trigger - Aim: Right mouse button / left trigger - Interact: E or F / X / Square - Drop item: Q / B / Circle - Compass: TAB / Y / Triangle
Made with the Hazel Engine. Launcher with graphics settings coming soon - in the meantime will run fullscreen at max graphics settings, so hopefully you have a good PC!
We all (3 of us) live streamed the making of the game - watch the VODs on YouTube.

Just two notes regarding the game:
- In the main menu, if you open the controls and then press enter, the controls disappear.
- I found it a bit annoying to press Enter to close the text boxes, since my hand was already moving the mouse and I had to move them to the Enter position. Maybe just make it close with Left mouse button as well? :)
It's running fine on a GTX 960. But I noticed some flickering sometimes. Not sure why.
Overall, great entry! And it's using Hazel!
The only issues I found were
- Controls Text disappearing, I think when opening multiple times
- Flickering (Yan said he was aware at the end of the stream)
Otherwise the game ran without stuttering and I had no issues running it, great job and thanks for providing so much educational content!
I love the look and feel of the game. I'm a sucker for hex grids and the texture were nice, the design of the little guy is cute. I also liked the humor you add it. Sadly the gameplay was lacking for me, just going from point A to B is not the most thrilling thing to do. But props for completing the game on your own engine, those are truly bragging rights.
However, I encountered a few issues and have a few suggestions:
- Moving with the WASD keys felt strange, as I couldn't move diagonally and could only go forwards/backward or strafe.
- The box in the initial tent with the "Ammo" label suggested that it could replenish ammo, but I couldn't figure out how to use it after multiple attempts.
- It would be great if there was a trace of enemy shots to indicate whether they hit or not (I assumed they always hit).
- I found it difficult to see dropped weapons, and a slight highlight could improve visibility.
At some point my gun stopped working and I couldn't figure out how to deliver the coffee until I alt-tabbed and looked at the controls again.
Impressive work on the unique atmosphere of the game - the fog and limited camera angle really add to the experience. It's great to see the Hazel engine coming along nicely!
I force quit (was there a nice exit?) and retried. This time the world looked completely different, so procedural generation was really diverse in outcome for a game-jam! This time there was no tent nearby and since I didn't find anything in the north/red direction of the compass the last time I walked some in the blue direction. I didn't find the tent though.
The graphics was really neat, though when surrounded by more then ten enemies it got rather bright. The controls worked well, tried both with controller and on keyboard. It was a bit hard knowing what to press on controller since the guides were for keyboard only.
An interesting bug using the controller in the menu pressing down and up sometimes I could press up several times in a row and it still had controls selected (or at least made the effect of it being selected).
Nice entry overall!
Also it wasn't clear how the compass was supposed to be read, so I just picked a color and followed it until I fell off the map.
I think you should spawn the character inside the coffee tent, I mean there really is no reason not to since there is no risk or reward before finding the tent. My first playthrough I didn't see the tent and just ran aimlessly around the world getting shot at by the enemies and found nothing of interest. My 2nd playthrough spawned me close to the tent and I picked up the gun and coffee, however I ran out of ammo and my coffee got obliterated before I was able to pick up another gun.
The game looks really cool! Excited to see what you guys cook up next.

As myself working on engines I absolutely understand this sort of struggle!
In the game, there were in my opinion too many enemies spawned and maybe adjusting ammo counts.
Keep up the good work!
