PAPERCUT by moonsheep

[raw]
made by moonsheep for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

It seems the Ludum Dare website embed is not working properly. Please try the game out on itch.io.

Agent Mailman, we need top secret information delivered to our covert agents! Get on it stat!

In PAPERCUT, your mission is to deliver important letters to spies - but be careful, there are enemy spies roaming around who do not want the letters to reach their destinations! Thankfully, the letters double as spy gadgets: use them to set up ropes that you can climb, distract enemies, or PAPERCUT them to death!

Controls: - A/D for movement - Space to jump - W to climb - Right click to aim - Left click to fire - E to interact - Q to switch between gadgets - R to restart level

Got some old espionage / pink panther vibes!

The visuals are absolutely fantastic. You nailed the feel of the game like in the old criminal / detective comic book. Music is a really good touch there as well.

I found the controls a bit clunky, but it's about the experience and feels here, not a perfect gameplay.

Definitely a time well spent, great job guys!

very interesting design! Although the operation is a bit stuck, the theme, graphics, gameplay design and music are all combined naturally, love it! XD

great design and music! However the mode-switching/climbing feels a bit too cumbersome, it's too easy to lose your last letter by mistake.

I absolutely love the theme, visuals and the music! Very cute little puzzle platformer! At first I was a bit frustrated by the controls, since I kept not being able to retrieve my letters, but since the levels are so short, it's very easy and convenient to just restart, which is a huge plus imo. Great execution!

The vibe is really REALLY cool, but its quite difficult on the controls - I get stuck a lot and have to press 2 buttons to shoot stuff :D
I got to climb on top of the end game level, would have been a perfect spot to hide an easter egg!

Cool graphics and theming, awesome music, and really cool idea. Some parts felt a little jank, notably climbing ropes, however that didn't hold this game back from being amazing.

UI elements took up the screen a bit and I couldn't see the game fully because I couldn't find fullscreen, but I like the art style and music, it would be nice if I could experience the gameplay a little better, overall it's sweet and polished

Even though the graphics are simple, the colors and style make it really stand out. I like how you you have to deliver the same thing you use as a weapon, nice game. My only complaint is that climbing is too slow in my opinion

Really nice stylised graphics and fun mechanics in the first level there is a pretty annoying softlock when you try to kill the two enemies.

Beautiful visual style! Simple, yet super efficient. Same for the back story. The tutorial UI is also really great and creative. I have to point that the UI in front may be a little big. The game itself has also good ideas gameplay wise I really like it!

Love the artstyle so god damn much. The music compliments it so well too, holy shit.

Really fun, only complaint is the slow climbing, but it didn't really hinder the experience. The stealth gameplay felt so cool too, like with the art and sound working together to create this 60's spy aesthetic making one of the most unique games of this jam. Though there doesn't seem to be an incentive to not use the rope letter all the time since those also kill people and you can make it through the game only using it. Really well done!

Wonderful game, love the art style and the music. I think the mechanics you added were really unique as well and compliments the stealth really well. I just am unsure when I would use the sonar distraction mail since I often can just fire a mail instead instead.

Big fan of the chill jazzy music, the minimalistic art style works really well too. In terms of theme/concept, this is one of the best takes I saw for now. I like that you have to be careful with your letters and make sure you can still deliver them after making robs or killing bad guys.

The only things you could improve would be to make parts of the gameplay a little more fluid, like rope climbing, and making sure your textures are imported with correct options in Unity so they don't look blurry.

Overall this is great, congrats on making this game!

I agree with pretty much all the other comments: the jazz music really compliments the game vibe. I love the movement animations as well! I managed to get the hang of the rope but the climbing could be faster, and allow you to jump. Maybe even have it pull you up automatically when it reaches the ceiling.

It's a really cool game with a very unique aesthetic!

Thank you so much for the feedback everyone! Me and @dungeoneer64 are incredibly happy you all enjoyed the style/vibes :) We will try to improve the character controller and some other points that were raised here. In the meantime, we published the game on itch.io (maximecaux.itch.io/papercut) to fix some problems that the Ludum Dare embed was causing. Please try the game out there, I think you'll have a better experience!

Pretty fun little game. I enjoyed the mechanics. My only couple suggestions might be to make the enemies respond a bit faster. I got seen a few times but never really got hit by them trying to shoot me. Also, I think I spent way too long looking for an easter egg at the "Thanks for playing" section :)

Great entry!@
