Daikaiju by GarethIW

[raw]
made by GarethIW for LD33 (JAM)
By Gareth Williams (@garethiw), Carl Hughes (@devilqube), Paul Yendley (@gredgie) and Shaun Reed (@shaunjmr)

Biologists remain baffled as to why it is so very angry at us, but the creature which many are labelling as a "daikaiju", is laying waste to the city as news cameras helplessly watch on.

Controls:

Cursors/Joypad stick - Movement
Space/Joypad A - Jump
C/Joypad X - Pick Up / Throw
V/Joypad RT - Breathe Fire
B/Joypad Y - Climb Building

- Incinerate and stomp your way through the military!
- Climb up buildings to tear them down faster!
- Rack up property damage totals and deaths, become the best daikaiju you can be!
- Submit your score to daily + all-time online leaderboards (currently desktop builds only)

****** RELEASE NOTES ******
It's 2am, so here's a list of the bugs:
- Webplayer build is buggy (invisible skyscrapers)
- I'd love to provide a WebGL build, but the WebGL build crashes out of the gate. I may take a look when I have a spare year to wait for a debug build to compile ;]
- Desktop builds are the definitive way to play

Haha, I LOVED this! Reminds me of Rampage back in the NES days. I love the use of the taglines to talk about player health, score, and the scrolling marquee was fantastic. Daenerys cosplayers, nice.

Like the news view. Jumping on 10 soldiers and 3 tanks and blowing them to bits feels good

A lot of games with gigantic monster destroying cities in this LD edition! :)
This is fun, I like that we play the monster but it's shown through a tv news feed, that way we get some feedback on how the horror is perceived by the humans, we get the 2 sides of this "story".
The tv effects with the news banner scrolling are very polished, but the in-game seems a little but unfinished, it's probably missing some colors. Although I've never been a big fan of a 3D game with 2D objects in it, some objects are hard to grab / to target. But I understand 3D requires a lot more development time.

The TV overlay is genius. Like really cool, clever, and used in a good way. The quotes on the ticker are pretty funny too.

The main thing I didn't enjoy is that you can end up behind the buildings and kind of lose track of what's going on or what's shooting you because they block the camera. Not sure how you could deal with it and keep the TV feel, but it is a concern.
