Comeback by hotaloca

[raw]
made by hotaloca for Ludum Dare 53 (COMPO)

The aged souls would like to get reborn - and need your help. Collect a few into a mini-ritual and have them escape the in-betweens before the delivery gate closes. A relatively chill puzzle game in spirit of delivering ghosts.

INSTRUCTIONS on HOW TO PLAY- please read before playing as the tutorial part is missing.

The sun, moon and star shapes dictate which ghost needs to be delivered: sun - full-most regular looking ghost; moon - half shaped ghost, star - smallest headed ghost. Inst.jpg You need to bring all target shape ghosts to the target location so they are counted. You can put multiple ghost on one route -- this way you can speed things up required to win the game. Actually originally this was designed to be able to win this way only. If you run out of slot (represented by hexagon signs), then ghost dies and it removes time. So try to avoid it if possible.

As expected got majorly behind with still sound not working perfectly, and game balancing for sure needs some more work.

Anyhow I hope you enjoy.

Tools I have used are Unity, Affinity Designer, Audacity, iPhone for recording sounds around the home, Store for generating music. I have used two sound effects from freesound as well as I run out of time (ghost loosing/winning) so I have opted out from audio category. I have also used some boilerplate code like gamemanager and scripts for playing multiple audio files.!

Nice spin on the traffic controller mechanic! Got to half the second level, nice!

I really liked the visuals in this game. It took me a couple of attempts to complete the first level and it would have been nice with some clear indicator of how close I was getting to success... e.g counting up towards a `x / y` saved. It got really stressful managing all paths on the second level already so I'm not sure I even want to see how the third looks

Not sure if I missed it but I didn't find a download for a build, so I just downloaded the source code and opened it in unity myself. I feel like your game really could have benifited from some in-game tutorial of some sort, i did figure it out and finish all 3 levels, but I at no point really felt like i knew exactly why what i was doing was working. The art is beautiful and the sound is simple yet very elegant. A quit button on the munu would also be appreciated so nobody has to alt + F4 the game XD

Was a bit hard to know what to do but I really like the hand drawn style and cute ghosts!

@malcom-thonger I have uploaded a Windows version as well for others too. Thanks for feedback for all - indeed User Experience and tutorial struggles again as I run out of time. Should prioritize those for my next Jam better

Lots of fun, really hard to get the correct ghosts at the right place, as the ghosts and their symbols are not the same visually. Once I knew the combinations it was very fun to do. Also accidentally found out that you can put multiple ghosts on the same route, which made me wonder why you cant put a ghost on a line that is already occupied. Fun gaame!

@bridgeonstick Great point! In the first day prototype they were still the same signs, but then from artistic point of view it looked better. I had on my list to-do to explain this but hey run out of time... Let me update the comments. Im glad you liked it!

I love te idea and the graphics. It lacks some fx to make it more enjoyable and rewarding but you have a nice core idea imho.

i really dig the mood of the game, it feels really relaxing, tiny and cozy ! it's a nice puzzle game that requires more and more timing the further you go, which i like! in the end, it was a bit too difficult for me though ^^'

Cute game! I actually found it really difficult (I don't know if I misunderstood the tutorial, but I almost always got losing positions)! Very nice aesthetic though, and great audio

Nice concept, the theme is fitting and I found the darkness and single color to be appealing. The levels were fun. I wish there was a bit more! The symbols are not that intuitive, but not too bad neither. The music with the ticking is great. Good job!

Very pleasant and engaging! It got me hooked for a really long time, although I didn't get past the second level. The visuals are very pleasing and concise. I would love to see this turned into a complete big game! Overall, a very good entry!
