Cavrncrate by JumboDS64

[raw]
made by JumboDS64 for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

You are Wenrick, courier for Cavrncrate Co. Your job is to deliver crates of rare artifacts gathered from ancient underground structures.

Pretty short, but this is the first time I've finished anything I'd call a polished game...

like the sprites and the kicking mechanic itself. But unfortunately I get stuck at level 2 ^^. I can't tell if I'm just stupid and missing the point of the puzzle but I can't jump over the box once it gets here and I feel like I need to.

EDIT: NVM I GET IT NOW lol

EDIT: Okay so now that I got to actually play it. Loved the puzzles especially the last 2.

The platforming felt a bit unresponsive at times tho especially since you had to make it work with slopes which isn't the easiest, but maybe less drag and a smaller hitbox could've helped I'm not sure.

Great game! The switch barrier levels are very fun and love kicking the boxes.

Neat little puzzle platformer, it kind of reminds me of ice puzzles from Pokemon games, but in a 2D sidescroller version instead of being top-down. The last level actually had me stuck for a little while, all of the puzzles were quite well-designed.

@matthewrf Thanks! I was careful to teach the mechanics via show-not-tell.

Nice game!

There's one thing I'm not sure about your thoughts:
When designing this road, is you are certain that a similar but empty background will not appear in the subsequent maps of the game. Or are you just trying to hide this path without considering more?

If players discover one such path, they will inevitably find a way out in all similar places, which will waste players' time and consume their patience.
Because I haven't played the clearance game, I'm not sure what the subsequent map will look like. So, just a reminder in case you haven't realized this yet.

@ox-yep That path wasn't intended to be hidden, no. In my post-Ludum version I'll update the semisolid platforms to be more visible.

The physic of the parcels felt really weird at first, but its actually what this game is all about. And it's funny to see how the level design change just with the fact that they have no gravity when in motion. It's weird but it works really well, good job !

Really liked the character art and enjoyed the level design too. Could have used a few more mechanics, but otherwise good job.

Very interesting spin on 2d slider puzzles, I like that it breaks your expectations of how the boxes should behave.
Clever puzzle game, good job
