Goldstriker by wolkp

[raw]
made by wolkp for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

Travel deep underground in a dangerous quest of finding the mythic Philosopher's Stone!
During each attempt, you will gradually build your deck of cards.
Cards will help you to dig deeper and face the awaiting dangers.

TLDR: This is a deck-building turn-based roguelike about a guy exploring a dangerous underground.
Oh, and he is searching for the ultimate treasure.

//Note:
I used models, particles and sound effects from the assets I own - only customizing them a little to make them juicer and/or better fit the game's aesthetic. I also used grid pathfinding from my last prototype - I've decided not to do it from scratch

//added a quickfix because removing a card in the shop was causing some bugs

I tried to download the game, but it just says "Not found". The screenshots look very enticing though.

@wolkp Thanks for uploading, it worked this time. The game is also really fun. I personally like the combination of roguelike and card game quite a bit. The laser beam and bomb are particularly satisfying. However, I had a bug on the third run and the enemies couldn't move and the round didn't end, you can see that in the screenshot.
Overall, it still feels polished. Well done!

It is gorgeous! Very impressive to see a project of this quality in Jam. The gameplay is fun, intuitive, it's pleasant to play and replay, the visual and sound atmosphere is perfect. A really great job!

@thierry Thanks! Yeah this is a weird bug that sometimes occurs. Didn't have time to fix that one though :p

@kilirane Thanks! <3

@asfdfdfd Yeah, Beam is really cool. I wanted to make more than 3 area cards to make this game more fast-paced. But anyways I'm happy with how it turned out

The first thing that struck me is how pretty the game looks. Really polished for a jam game. I played a couple of rounds. I got a deck with a couple of bombs and meditate cards and that basically allowed me to bomb the hell around. Not sure about the harvest theme though.

@lerg Thanks. Currently no, I've tried to launch a html5 build here but it behaved really strange :D

Congratulations on creating a unique game that combines card mechanics with mining elements! Your implementation of simple but effective cards, and well-designed user interface is impressive. Despite the pace being slower than some would like, your effort on creating a unique and engaging experience for players is clear. Keep up the good work!

This is a high quality game for sure! It really feels like a finished product with only a few minor annoyances. I like the level of polish in UI and how intuitive it is. I kept pressing space instead of clicking myself to activate some cards, though, would love some fault prevention there. Also, the game would benefit from some sort of ending scene, as the ending feels a bit abruptly now. Didn't even have the chance to notice what got me.

That said, very impressive game! Good looking and quite interesting to play. Here's my playthrough:

Nice gameplay loop, loved the Slay The Spire-esque card system, it fit in really nicely with the gameplay. The sound effects, particularly explosion, were really harsh on my ears and dominated the music too much though.

A card based mining game with bomber man style bombs. Such a great combo.

The game play is very smooth, the audio is done well. I enjoyed playing this.

The cards really did make the game play. Not being able to beat every enemy instantly and having to back track is a great feature.

nice work! :)

Hello there! The year is 2023, I know, but some of us still run on non-widescreen resolutions:

![Screenshot 2023-01-17 21.48.01.png](///raw/b57/z/56997.png)

Next time try to consider us old dinosaurs when you're making your UI :)

I also suffered some weird graphical bugs (z-fighting / everything turning dark??) when trying to play on my laptop, but that is admittedly a niche setup (M2 Macbook Air running Windows 11 ARM via Parallels) and I've seen some graphical flickering issues in other games so I wouldn't worry too much about it, maybe some sort of weird driver issue.

Anyhow, this was fun, I wish there were more cards to make some sort of more degenerate setup like in most deck-building games but I understand this is only an LD entry haha. A minor complaint would be that some of the bomb / hit sfx are overpowering in volume when compared to the music / other audio which means I didn't get to appreciate it as much.
