Going Downtown by justinooncx

NOTE: This game should be able to be played on mobile devices as well as PC. Really, anything with a mouse/touchscreen and a web browser. Give it a shot, and tell me if it works!

===========================================================================

What do you do when you're being chased by an angry, sentient slime monster? If 'RUN AWAY' was your answer, you'd only be half correct!

It's a game of survival, and you have to do whatever it takes to stay alive a little longer. Even if it costs a life of another...

===========================================================================

HOW TO PLAY:

1. Click on the button with the red man to start playing.
2. Click on the appropriate button when an NPC comes within range.
3. Upon a successful hit, your cooldown will be refreshed almost instantly to allow you to attack again.
4. If your attack hits nothing, or hits the wrong person, the cooldown will be 2 seconds long.
5. Survive as long as possible!

This game jam did NOT start well. I meant to enter the compo, but the theme didn't sit right with me. The game that I made at the start was far too ambitious and complex, and the whole thing fell apart. I left the compo slightly disheartened, but I swore on my pride to at least submit something.

And now, in about 12 hours (less, because of work), I have managed to scrounge up something I'm actually rather pleased with. Not the best game, but it fit the personal criteria I set for myself in this game jam: arcade-ish gameplay and compatible with both phones and PCs. It turned out a lot better than I thought it would, and perhaps I might come back to polish it.

All in all, another wonderful experience in a game jam. Thank you for playing my game, if you have!

haha! You are the monster in how you run away from the monster. Love the idea. The "controls" weren't clear to me at first. I only figured them out by accident.

Took me a few tries to understand how to play. I like this game a lot, well done. I played with a mouse - I can see this game is probably a lot more fluid with a touch device. I kept overshooting the button I wanted when making quick choices! I really like how this fits with the theme.

Audio felt a little repetitive after I'd learned to survive for a while.

Definitely better played with touch than a mouse, since it's faster to touch the right thing, at least for me. The controls were not obvious at first, but I did figure them out through trial and error. A little tutorial -- "touch X now!" sort of thing -- would help a lot.

Pretty fun, though, once I got in the groove!

I think the sound is cute, but the instruction is a bit ambigious

I like the concept of this game where you need to figure out which one of them would reach u first and react to it properly. Great work!

Pretty cool game and art, I understood the mechanics in a few seconds and it could become a really addicting game with some power ups. It's really only missing some sense of progression...

Fun game! It took a while to get the idea that you're the guy running away and the goal is to knock others into the monster, but once you got it it's like a strange rhythm game of sorts. Good job!

Funny! This was rather enjoyable for a project as small as this.
The music does get a bit old after awhile, but I feel like the music fits with the art really well.

Fun game!
A bit hard with mouse, as you said it may be better with tactile hardware!
It's pretty, the music is neat (but a bit repetitiv), I liked it overall :)
And nice interpretation of the theme!

Simple but well made, cool graphics! Challenging game. I included it in part 6 of my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/keaznjOtLXA

It is a funny concept trying to kill people to run away from the monster. I had fun. Good job.

Pretty fun. I enjoyed the simple visuals. Touch controls felt good. I ultimately lost due to a big break in NCPs.

Cool game. IT was quite challenging due to the various movement of the different types of people - cool. Win by sacrificing others...brutal :D

Great twist on the theme! Desperate people do whatever it takes to survive, even if it means becoming a monster. The only issue I have is the difficulty in playing this on PC due to the distance of the buttons, so I'd need a few precious seconds to move my mouse to the right button.
