Click to harvest by noskro
Click to Harvest is a simple farming game. Plant Seed Cards into an empty farm plot and harvest the fruits of your labor once they are grown. The harvested crops can then be used in reseraching new seeds. Don't ask us how the science behind that works, but trust us, it does! On the market you can sell your leftover crops and buy need seed booster packs. Can you master all crops and reach retirement? PLAY ON ITCH
How to play:
Click on fully grown crops on your farm plots to harvest them. Grown crops sparkle to let you know they need harvesting.
To plant new crops just drag a seed card onto an empty plot.

Follow the link on the left screen border to the reserach tab. Drag crop cards onto different reserach task to fullfill them and unlock new seeds. You get 1 seed as a reward but can buy more seeds from now on in the market

From the farm to right to visit the market. Here you can sell single cards by dropping them on the corresponding circle or sell all cards by pressing the button above.
Buy seed booster packs to get 3 random new seeds for your farm. Once you have unlocked higher tier seeds in the reserach, you can buy those seeds in the higher tier packs

This may just be me doing something wrong but I was not able to do too much. I couldn't get research working and I only ever had access to one booster pack.
I feel like the days should go a bit slower, because I never actually had to wait for my crops to grow, since I could do research/buy boosters in the meantime, and the boosters animation was quite long. But it was fun overall :)
@ian-mcd The initial draft had plans for other things like equipment that increases some stats (or protect from bad weather) and that you have to buy new plots and things like that... but a little overscoping is a requirement for a game jam, right?
@mangoworks There should be background music in the game. Strange that you got the sound but not the music. What device/browser did you use?
There doesn't seem to be a lose condition; it felt that it was really just a matter of time and getting the right crops in the card drops.
It would also have been helpful to get a hint on what cards would be available (i.e., the chance of getting a com
mon, uncommon or rare seed) for each of the boosters. Too often I'd be buying a 2-star booster trying for a particular seed, only to have it finally drop when I bought a 1-star booster.
I really like the research and card-based play, though. Very well done!
Technically there is a lose condition: You can run out of money and are unable to do anything. But we didn't want to make a game that you can lose and even thought about adding a mechanic that gives you free seeds if you are broke. In the end we balanced the game so easy, that that should never happen and it is just about enjoying the journey to the end (or trying to beat the days highscore).
Making it clearer which seeds you get from which boosters is something that we should have done in hindsight. I added it to the To-Do list for a potential post-jam-update.
It took me while to find out there was also a research tab, so once I had about a million carrots I found out there was more to do xD
You made a lot of content in such a short time, nice job!
Only tips I could think of is maybe to have some hotkeys for selecting cards, a button to sell all produce only (not your seeds) and maybe a way to skip the pack buying animation. Especially when looking for a specific type of seed it can get a little tedious.
Again, great job over all!
I might have found a small bug as double clicking the buy-new-card button sometimes starts the process but not the audio.
Other than that, I don't know what to say. Very addictive! XD
The inventory was full realy fast, but the hoverover kept it still manageable. As for the animation duration, fast clicking in the market allows to buy 3 sets while only showing the animation 2 times. And you can skip the second if you leave the market. For the research one, just leave
