Every aspect of this game is really well made !
It's a shame that some bugs appear and spoil the experience :(
And nice work on the tutorial part, helped a lot !
- Relaxing ambiance (sound, UI, overall feel)
- Took me a couple of playthrough to find the right strategy. I may have missed it, but getting food was tough ^^'
- The idea and the management aspect is fine
- The bugs made me restart the game a couple of times
- Overall, fantastic game! Kudos to the team
I found the duration of the season change animations quite long. They were useful in telling me where my food was coming from and going, but it prevented me from playing through the game when I wanted to quickly test out different strategies. I'd really like the option to speed it up/skip it if I'm already familiar with the game.
I'm sure there's a winning strategy in there somewhere, but it's just out of reach for me! Nice game :)
The game has a cool vibe, nice art and relaxing music & sound. The game is definitly not easy, especially if you are unlucky like me with your dice rolls! Would love to see a complete farming game with this core concept with more content and choices to make.
The only thing is that the mechanics are not that easy to pick up. Because of this, I almost closed the game, but I saw a lot of potential in it, so I kept playing to understand it better.
Good job!
1 How the heck does the reclaim system work? What does it do? Sometimes it seems to buy more land, sometimes it does nothing and I have just wasted a bunch of dice.
2 How does extra land help? If you spend dice to buy more land, you can't afford workers to use the land.
3 What does the collect section mean? x(2~6) / x(1~3) / x(0~0) - what does it mean?? :D
4 Does using dice in season 3 do anything? If you use the dice to grow wheat in season 3 a dice number is rolled but the total doesn't go up at all - is this a glitch?
5 Same as last point but for reclaim
6 I rolled a 5 on care, and it gave me 1. I had no negative seasonal effects. Was this supposed to happen.
7 The cost of new farmers goes up to 30 and stays there even in new games - I think this is a glitch.
Overall this looks like a game I would really enjoy, and I was really determined to figure it out because I liked the look of it so much. But I can't figure it out for the life of me, I think you should explain every mechanic in the tutorial. I played about 20 times and couldn't get past year 2. I could never afford more workers, their extra food needs would just kill me every time.
Let me know, would love to come back and play this once I understand it a bit better!!
Really love the UI and music btw :)
I will say that it is too hard at the start of the game and it makes it hard to figure out a strategy that works.
Also 1 d6 has a little too much variation especially when you can have a dead run because you rolled a 1 too many times. A possible solution would be doubling the costs to grow and reclaim and making each farmer roll 2d6.
Some bugs, I noticed the price of the farmers doesn't reset after a loss (have to close the game) and some other general weirdness. Also I wasn't sure how the water/fertilizer/care values translated to harvest, and it seems very RNG-dependent right now. That being said it's super difficult to balance a game during a jam and I applaud the ambition with all the different mechanics here.
All in all pretty fun and a really nice jam game! Also for a first jam this is incredible, my first jam game sucked so bad.
Great work, good job!
