* The god of metal has sent you, his angel, to get back the metal humans harvest from the ground…any way you can. *

The goal of the game is to cause as much mayhem as possible in traffic, as every collision will earn you some metal towards your goal.

How to Play

CONTROLS

  • Place item - Left Click / Enter

  • Rotate item - Middle Click / R

  • Deselect item - Right Click/Backspace

  • Menu - Esc

POWERS

  • Arrow - Speed boost in a certain direction - Infinite duration

  • Spikes - Slows cars down - Infinite duration

  • Portal - Teleports the car to a differently colored portal - Infinite duration

You can place a power over another to make it disappear. Also works in level editor.

Level Editor

Controls

  • Place road - Left Click / Enter

  • Rotate road - Middle Click / R

  • Deselect road - Right Click/Backspace

  • Menu - Esc

You can keep clicking to paint multiple pieces of the road.

To select a piece, use the dropdown menu, then click on the place button.

Every map must be connected to at least one vertical or horizontal road piece on one of its sides for cars to spawn.

Changelog

The version on itch.io is a (very slightly) bugfixed version. The original 48hrs version is available as a windows download only because the embed on LD wouldn't work...

Changes

  • Fix spikes bug (they only worked when placed in a certain direction)

  • Fix arrows bug (the velocity boost wasn't working right)

  • Added more money to make game easier (certain maps were impossible)

Known bugs

  • You can waste your money sometimes by clicking on the UI with a piece in hand, which will place it behind the UI

  • Cars get stuck on walls and flip out

  • Holding the wall with the mouse without placing it will sometimes still make cars crash into it

  • You can beat the level editor....yeah

  • And a lot more that I can't think of right now!

Warning for the non-bugfixed version: Some levels might be unreasonably difficult...Very little time to playtest, unfortunately. If you're really struggling, try using walls.. Good luck!

Came for the pun, stayed for the god mode.

How did you manage to make all that in 48 hours. Amazing.

I had a good time with this one! Super funny. I was personally a brick wall guy - simple but effective. Love the lil' soundtrack too, super sweet. Good stuff!

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Much appreciated! If I'm honest, I'm really disappointed that I didn't have time to properly test the levels (and indeed some appear to be excessively difficult), so I'd recommend giving the level editor a go if you haven't.

Cool concept, really like that you even managed to create a level editor in the short time we had. Well done!

There's a lot here considering the short development time. Overall I think it works quite well. It can get quite chaotic at times but that's part of the fun. The music also fits quite well with the rest of the game. Well done.

That was a really clever take on the theme and the music is great. Nice job!

I refuse to believe this was done in 48 hours! So much fun and such a creative and unique game. Even the music is perfect.

For some reason the game doesn't work in embedded version (but works on itch).
> Failed to read the 'serviceWorker' property from 'Navigator': Service worker is disabled because the context is sandboxed and lacks the 'allow-same-origin' flag.

Funny concept, although it was pretty hard to understand controls. I won first map not doing anything (cars just mayhemed themselves), after a few minutes I finally understood the controls. Placing walls was fun.

Interesting concept, but hard to play. Maybe preparing the obstacle before cars come would be interesting. Good work !

This was fun! It's very difficult to win, but still had fun shooting cars around using the boosters!

@danmerey Thanks for the warning! It seems I can't get the embed to work here, even though I followed the guide and it's the same .zip as the one on itch.io...Oh well. Yeah, it's really tough to get the difficulty right as the cars have a tendency to randomly implode. But that's part of the fun. I should work on explaining controls better for sure.

@raphytator That's an interesting idea, wish I'd thought of that. Thanks for the feedback!

Road simulation and a level editor. Impressive!

Very impressive technically. I think the cars stick too close to their paths to really crash enough or at least give enough room for error that you can figure out a solution to a level. I also wasn't 100% sure what everything was doing, so I wasn't able to clear many of the levels. Great work though, I played this for like a half an hour so suffice it to say I enjoyed it a lot.

@orhu Appreciate the constructive feedback! You're absolutely right, the cars were a headache to program and in the end they're a bit too glued to the road. I also just tweaked the starting money on itch.io to make the levels slightly easier because they were definitely too hard. Thanks for playing!

Aww tiny cars! A few times the cars were crashing by themselves, but I still had fun figuring out different ways to beat all the levels - great game!

Really cool submission! Enjoyed playing around in the level editor and watching the cars go crazy fast and then crash

It is fun little time waster, points for originality. Would be fun to see real game built with same idea.

Also bonus points for level editor. While not master class UX design, it is more than usable (certainly better than using Notepad)

Great idea. I beat like 3 of the maps it could have been a little more challenging but I suppose that's what the level editor is for.

Great concept, the art is simple and appealing, and it's really enjoyable to slam a bunch of vehicles into each other for points. I think the game could benefit from requiring more strategic placements of various obstacles, maybe if it was designed more as a puzzle game than a sandbox, and right now it feels like placing walls is usually the best option. The fact that you got a level editor in in time was impressive! Great job :)

I saw your game on one of the streams and I knew immediately I have to try it out for myself. For a compo this is astonishing amount of work done.

I'm not gonna lie I cheated a bit on the last level when I found out I can just never place the wall on the ground and just hold it with my cursor and bump it directly in to incoming cars. :P still loved the game and I think you should be very proud of yourself. Fantastic job.

@bigwhiteshogun Appreciate it! I'm happy with the outcome and I'm thinking of polishing it a little bit, adding maybe a few more varieties of cars/powers and maps and releasing a proper post-jam version.

That last level is incredibly hard as you've found so I totally understand using any glitch you can find, we can pretend it's working as intended™.

Thanks so much for the kind words!

Great work.
I just tried the easy town but thought that the graphics could be larger and a few sound fx for crashes with maybe some particles/explosions and money text could really improve the immersion and feel of the game.

I enjoyed seeing how the cars reacted to different things, but I definitely agree with others that the cars need to be less glued down to their tracks. I think the fun here is in seeing the carnage you can make so leaning into that by making everything more dramatic would really add to the enjoyment.

I love the zoomed out graphics a lot, since it gives you such a birds eye view of everything going on. The music also evokes the mood really well.

Overall there's a really good core here but the game needs just a little bit more work on balance and feel.

I really like the visual style of this game, and it goes very well with the audio and the gameplay itself too. It has such a "made in my bedroom over the weekend" vibe, this is what I'm here for tbh. I guess if you wanted to make the gameplay nicer you could add a fast-forward button. I could see this game becoming wildly addictive if you added a way to earn back money somehow, so that you could keep adding more traps.

causing mayhem is always fun! also nice pun in the title :D
I think a few more pixels wouldn't be bad though, it sometimes was hard to tell what's going on :)
