Bloody Roots by FrogtownMatt
I woke up 10 minutes before sunset, as I always do. Cleared the froth my fangs, and poured a cup of beet juice to satisfy my sanguine urges. The supply is running low. I can't go much longer on these small rations before instinct takes over and someone gets hurt. I dodge the sunlight coming through the cracks between the woodwork as I put on my cape and gloves.
I am ready for another day in the Blood Beet fields.
In "Bloody Roots" you play as a conscientious vampire who grows Blood Beets to stave off the inevitable vampiric terror that is within them. Use your crossbow to water (???) and kill (???!!!) beets to keep your blood bar full.

The game itself is crazy fun. Seriously well realized, plays ridiculously smoothly. It starts out very easy and calm, but quickly turns into a Vampire Survivors type experience.
I was surprised to find myself caged in when the boss spawned, nice touch.
The graphics are lovely as well. Very impressed with how clearly visible each beet is, even when there get to be a ton on the screen. I'm not sure if they're cel shaded but it kind of gives that Viewtiful Joe vibe. Very, very cool look.
The audio also fits superbly, both in the intro and in the game itself.
A really, really strong submission to this competition.

Eventually I died because of a boss that was so bullet spongy that I couldn't kill him before I ran out of beet juice.
Solid game.

The glowing indicator for low blood helped a lot during the frantic moments.
My only issue was the model for the fencing was very hard to see and I kept getting stuck on it wondering why I couldn't move anymore.
