Sacrifice to the Harvest God by lzxh

[raw]
made by lzxh for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

Farm crops to feed your villagers, but to ensure a good harvest, sacrifices must be made. Sacrifice crops and villagers to increase your favor with the Harvest God. Don't let your villagers starve.

First Ludum Dare and game jam in general. The final result was not exactly up to the quality I envisioned, but I made a playable game so I think I did well nevertheless.

Made in Unity.

Thought it was good, but I felt that it was a bit unclear when clicking on the villagers if anything actually happened. The game is also a bit slow pace, so an increase there would be nice.

Overall really game, and with some visual feedback it would be much better!

You have a great idea here, although its a bit hard to understand at first. That comes with game jams though, no time to implement tutorials and such. Congratulations on your first entry!

I was a bit confused about the wheat at first but I figured it out. What do I do once I'm in the temple?

@mrnotcrazy There's instructions on the itch page.

Fun concept and solid art, but it's very confusing. I read the instructions on the itch page, but villagers kept dying without it being clear why, I couldn't tell what the time number meant, and there seems to be something going on with the color of the soil but I can't tell what. Would've benefited a lot from some kind of game log.

Great game for a first time participant! Sito already gave great feedback on how the game communicates its systems, I don't have anything to add in that regard.
But, to provide additional feedback, I feel like the game would work better as a single screen game with a static camera. By increasing the camera size/downscaling the sprites/increasing the pixels per unit ratio (and maybe slightly changing the layout of the environment) you could easily fit all the important information in a single viewport.
Having all visual information and all possible interactions available at all times would probably work better for the game.
Congrats on your first LD!

Decent Game, well done on your 1st jam!!!!! If it wasn't for the text on the game page, I'd have no idea what to do xD. Good job!

Great job on getting your first jam in! That's wonderful! I really enjoyed the art style and look to this one. I think the core idea of the game is a lot of fun though could really use some more feedback on what was happening so I have a little bit more of an idea of when and how much to sacrifice as playing it felt more random than me accomplishing things. The idea though I think is a lot of fun, a little tweaking and some feedback to the player, add some music and sounds and you'd have a great little game! Congrats on your first Jam and getting a running game turned in

Congrats on your first Jam submission! I think my sentiments are quite similar to the ones that came before me, it's a little hard to plan where to plant your crops not knowing which tiles will dry up and it wasn't immediately clear what sacrificing villagers does as you have to travel from the temple to the field, so there's no direct oversight. I'd say the overall mood is well done, the graphics look nice. With some work this concept could turn out to be quite a fun experience!

It is a bit confusing at first, with no clear objectives or feedback (ie. when clicking on the people I dind't realize that they simply walked to the temple, so I tough clicks weren't working on them for some reason). Other than that congratulations on your first game jam!

I liked the idea for the theme but I didn't ever feel like I needed to sacrifice anyone. Maybe I missed a visual cue or it never came up? I thought the harvesting of the fields was satisfying, though. Great work for your first jam!

Good job with your first jam! More feedback to the player what is going on would be apprenticed, now it was a bit obtuse what was going on at first.
