Moving forward lags the game for a moment, expected upon tackling the task of procedurally generated terrain. Trying to optimize this will prove to be a very educational experience, good luck!
Game itself is kinda lacking, the significance to the theme is very weak.

I actually had quite a bit of fun with this trying to figure out a strategy to lose the critters. And I did get to the cactus in the end - although at first I had no idea where to go, until I came across a signpost. It was definitely an adventure.

I liked the mood as well, reminded me of RS3. The camera was a bit janky tho.

And, I appreciate the simple controls and instructions.

Neat concepts at play. Really like the aesthetics of the board, how it's rendered and such. The movement felt a little off, it took me a second to piece together that it's a turn-based game. Something about the game makes it feel like it's realtime and that caused me to see the movement as clunky at first. Once I got that out of my head it flowed more naturally for me.

The game has a cool idea, but the game has moved away from the topic

Cool little adventure! I appreciate the procedural map, and simple yet effective graphics (especially liked how you did the tornado). A bit weak on the theme in my eyes, aside from that great work :)

Cool procedural game! Found the hat, the water, the boots and the king cactus! Technically a very solid game and a lot of little things going on like the sign posts. Also a lot of 3d-assets you managed to produce in 48 hours.

Very nice entry to the Compo!

Good concept ! The lag or camera glitch while moving kills a bit the mood unfortunately. Not sure if it is because of the procedural or that the camera is anchored to the character without smoothing while moving.

Nice concept! Maybe it will be a little bit more comfortable with the top-down camera perspective?

The art style was cute and had a nice chunky retro feel to it.

The camera movement when the player moves is a bit jarring and made me a bit nauseous, which made it hard to play.

I didn't hear much in the way of audio besides a sound when the player took damage.

The level felt way too densely packed with enemies, which made it near impossible to avoid taking damage. Adding a mechanic to fend off enemies would help a lot. Either some kind of an attack, a defensive item, or even being able to use enemies against one another (ie. Tornado can consume a scorpion).

The theme felt like a bit of a stretch for me. More of a back story than a central component of the game.

I think this is potentially an interesting concept but needs more work.

hahaha, I suck at roguelike games, man, I died like five hundred times. But congrats on the game man! super cool art. Congratulations indeed. Ah, if you have a little time, join my game and see what you think of it. But the ideal is to download it, because the ludum window is giving an error in the screen proportion! It cost!!!

Who knows what next season will bring indeed. Great entry. the soundtrack in the end was pretty neat, you should have kept it for the entirety of the game. maybe it was intended to, but i had no tunes to comfort me in the harsh desert wasteland.

Boots OP, but thank you for having leaving them around <3

Cool game, I enjoyed it. Kept dying super close to the cactus king! The "harvest" theme is a bit of a stretch, but good game regardless.

Fun concept! The lag when moving makes that a little frustrating. It was a good challenge trying to dodge the scorpions. Gameplay-wise it might have been good to provide intermediate goals beyond the main one, as it didn’t feel like there was much reason to go one direction vs. another (except “away from the scorpions”, hah). With the lag fixed I would have played this for quite a while. Nice work.

Thank you all for playing!

Sorry for the bad lag (for most) when moving,
i made an ill-advised last-minute change that resulted in a lot of totally unnecessary hit-checks for the enemies. Unfortunately this wasn't too noticeable on my machine at the time.

Another thing that didn't work when i submitted the game were the other sound effects.

If anyone wants to try and find the king cactus again, i fixed these issues in a Post-Jam version that also has controls for mobile:

I like to be strict about the compo limits and keep the submitted version as it is.

Neat game! I didn't manage to find anything other than scorpions, but it was a nice wander through the desert.

I liked the signs that point you towards the right direction. The boots and water items could be a bit easier to find, probably most people have missed them. Also was surprised that there is music in the victory screen! Better also play the music during the gameplay, so people actually hear it  The controls felt a litte bit off, but overall nice game!
