Fangs by Valon

[raw]
made by Valon for LD33 (COMPO)
Hi!

This is my third Ludum Dare and my third compo.

The game is finished, sadly I saw a bug last minute and didn't have time to correct it (sometimes you can't be detected anymore, which is actually not really game breaking since you can loose from other things but is still very annoying).
As an audio guy I struggle more than I probably should with the code.

I had a lot of fun with the sounds tho, trying to make it super cliché.

At the end of the day I think this is my best LD game so far, it is pretty fast paced and not impossibly hard like my other two (it is actually rather easy I think). You can even do some cool tricks with the "Y" power.

Used :

C# in Unity.
Wwise for audio.

Controls :

WASD or Arrows
Space for Jump
Y for steroid power (toggle on/off). (walk and jump way better)
F for cloack (toggle on/off). (can't be seen)
E to drink the blood of the victim and regain your blood.
T to instant kill the victim (you get no blood)
E when the victim is dead to hide the body.

Kill as many people as possible before your blood falls to 0 and do it in less than 3 mistakes (people seeing you or dead bodies). At 3 mistakes the alarm will start and every victim will try to escape.

I hope you enjoy and if you have feedback on it I'd be happy to ear it.

My goals for the next time should be to learn at least basic 3D and maybe some animation. Or basically anything related to graphics overall.
I also hope to improve at coding.

Thank!

Desperately needs a musical theme rather than just a grindy guitar loop. Killing feels very slow, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Player movement feels very weighty and the jump feels huge, which is pretty cool. Don't know if it fits with the stealth gameplay, though.

I liked the atmosphere of the game. The controls feel a little heavy like another commenter mentioned, but overall a nice concept.

Fun game. Enjoyed the hunting aspect of the game. Fit the theme well (obviously). Couple gripes with it: once I have set off the alarm, the alarm sound continues to play, even if I start a new game. Also, if I kill someone with the "T" key, it doesn't count towards my kill score. Which is sadness. Other than that, cool stuff!

Thanks for the feedback.

I didn't necessary meant it to be stealth. I personnaly play it using a lot of toggle on/off on the Y power and jumping around over buildings and stuff, not really with stealth. I mean in a way it is stealth but it's more in and out kind of stuff to me. Not wait around in a corner.

I wasn't aware of the alarm/T sound bug my bad. I definitly have a line of code stopping the alarm sound tho which is weird.

For the music I didn't really have time, I did this fast but I feel the "metal" loop kinda pumps up the gameplay. Could use more variety for sure.

Good job on finishing and improving on the coding. The map felt a little too big for how fast you were able to move and how far the humans can see.

Pretty cool! like the expressions on the victims changing depending on their state, hiding bodies was a little awkward at times though, and it would've been nice to have some buildings you could climb more easily (as an alternative to the steroid power), but enjoyed it as it was

You managed to get a lot of atmosphere in to this. Speeding up behind a human and then sucking his blood was extremely satisfying too. Works really well - the mechanics are the vampire game I want!

Nice atmosphere, nice concept. Music will get boring at some point , but for the jam it's great:D. Controls feel awkward but you get to learn them at some point . Great game what so ever

Pretty good game, requires better music. The controls seem very heavy, you should be able to start moving and stop moving faster.

Other than that, pretty good game!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I actually almost didn't put any music but then I decided it would be better even with this super repetitive one which I did in like 10 min since I was late. Maybe it was not the better choice.

This was awesome. The minimalist graphics do help bring out a sort of hunting mood. The sounds were great. I think my only two gripes are that hiding a body was kinda buggy and that sometimes I would get stuck on the floor for no reason. Otherwise, I had a great time

A pretty cool game that nails the feeling of being a vampire stalking unsuspecting prey

Thanks for the new feedback guys.

Also I can't really put a web build since my Wwise is acting up. I would have to redo a new sound integration I think.

Very cool concept and mechanics! The camera was very hard to control and i wish it was more easy to be detected by the humans. Loved the "humans" faces aha

I love the sounds! How "i" am breathing, just perfect! Only the mouse control is a bit...sensivite? And it is a bit confusing in the beginning to see everything in red. But you get used to it.
