Purple Grain by darzu

Goal
Harvest all the purple grass! Avoid the red grass!
Dev Backstory
This game was built using my own engine, Sprigland, which is free, open-source (but not in a great place for others to use yet.) Me and a friend wrote the engine from scratch including a renderer, physics engine, ECS, and netcode for peer-to-peer coop.
Right now, we're building a roguelite coop sailing game set in hyperspace. You can follow our progress here: https://twitter.com/sprigland and https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@sprig

I also love the idea of a little drifting/racer game focused around a boat!
Some thoughts:
- For me the contrast between the grass and purple grain was a little low and it was a little tough for me to differentiate.
- I saw the option to turn on/off harvesting but it was obvious how that affected anything, if at all.
I also liked that I could get off the rudder and walk around.
Also, yeah I know this is likely a little project just to test out your engine but I figured a little feedback never hurt anyone so :)
Awesome job with this all things considered! The grass looks really cool and I love how it gets matted down.
Game itself is a neat idea. It lagged for me initially so I had to really shrink the browser window down (being able to unlock the cursor would've been nice) and then it seemed to run smooth but I found it hard to control, so I guess I can't be 100% sure whether that was the game or just my computer making it less responsive so don't want to fault you for that 😅
Either way I liked the challenge provided by only having indirect control, having to gauge the direction of the wind and make adjustments to all the factors accordingly. I felt like my preferred strategy was to wait for just the right wind at the beginning. A restart button would've been nice to be able to retry that quickly. I never really saw a reason *not* to enable harvesting tho, did I miss something?
I assume it's just because there's so much grass but would be cool if it could be optimised a bit for weaker hardware, or to have a slider to decrease the number of strands.
Neat game that could be even better with a bit of polish! ⛵️
When grass cutting is enabled, you take much more damage from red grass. But honestly the ship is so slide-y that you're probably doomed if u hit the red grass no matter what haha.
Thanks for playing and the detailed comment!!!
