Growth Spurt by Cole and Jordan Studios

Play as a Giraffe who's neck gets longer every 10 seconds! Eat as many leaves as you can to keep your energy bar full and attempt to devour the moon.

Move mouse to control Giraffe!

I've made a small patch to fix some small bugs since the Jam submission. Hopefully it should make the game more playable!

One note about the art is that a few (I think 2?) of the textures were generated using Craiyon.

I'm not sure why I eventually snapped like a rubber band but I really enjoyed the game :100:

The idea is great and the mechanics easy to understand. This has to be one of the funniest games of LD51! Music, sounds and graphics gave me a big smile.

Thanks for sharing our game on your stream! Your game's pretty funny, I like the concept. I kept getting confused by the trees in the background, I thought they could be eaten. The body getting hauled around by the neck was a good touch.

Haha my head popped off nearing the end. Pretty funny! As for feedback, I wasn't entirely sure why there was no HTML5 version (hi I'm new here) but now that I know it was made with Unreal Engine... well that makes sense. Good job, looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with next jam!

Very funny! I was frequently giggling at the inherent silliness of the whole thing.

It has that Garry's Mod style jankiness that makes it hilarious! Sometimes it's hard to figure out which trees provide energy and which are just in the background, and sometimes my neck exploded for reasons of physics weirdness. Also there seemed to be a bug whereby if I tried to play again, the energy never depleted and I could just wait until my neck was long enough to eat the moon.

@jonathang Huh, I thought that bug with the bar not depleting was fixed. Definitely some physics weirdness lol. Thanks for the great feedback!

@artofluba actually it's made in Unity, I uploaded a WebGL but it was broken for some reason (⌒_⌒;) Thanks for the feedback!

My neck was going crazy when it got real long lol. But who cares, I love this goofy little game! The art and the sfx are so on point!

@sphinx Thank you! Yeah the neck is insane; I did a bunch of stuff to try to prevent that, but I just accepted at some point that it would happen, especially when it gets long enough.

as someone above mentioned, this has the beautiful charm of garry's mod. big fan of the exploding neck physics and the spacex sponsorship!

The presentation on this game is great. The music sets the stage well and as it goes it gets goofier and goofier. The fact that the eating noise is a vacuum cleaner is hilarious and I audibly giggled when I saw the SpaceX rocket. I wouldn't be surprised if the inspiration for this was a fever dream you had the night before lol

Funny game! Being to able to stay low and just eat the respawning trees made it so that I basically never worried about the obstacles until the very end. Maybe if the energy consumption increased each time your neck grew, it would mean the player would have to go for the higher ones and dodge the obstacles.

I had a great time with this game. It was fun, the concept was executed well and I love the leaf eating sound effect that (to me) gave the impression of the giraffe being a hedgetrimmer vacuum XD. My only criticisms are that the first small plane was kinda hard to see once the giraffe got really tall and I did not realize the movements were mouse-based at first because it did not say so in game.

I would definitely recommend uploading a web version from Unity so more people might try it.

Excellent work! I loved the physics-y-ness of it, and it was probably the funniest thing I've seen this jam. Well done!

Nothing could have prepared me for this madness xD Funny game! I didn't realize the first time the paraglider guy is what killed me, I thought he was just chillin!

Amazing 🦒 Simple but fun and intuitive. Nice music, but I guess you didn't make it since you opted out of the audio category? Still a good fit, slightly hectic but playful! Graphics are perhaps "bad" but there is something to be said for the nostalgic charm of barely shaded low-poly art with way too detailed textures 😁 Feels like something I'd get on a demo CD-ROM with a box of cereal in the early 2000s. Obviously funny. Loved the dragon giraffe in the background. Neck parts bugged out a bit and didn't quite stick together but again charming. I didn't seem to be able to eat the lower trees anymore when my neck got longer, was that intended? I guess the eating noise was meant to be blades/shears but combined with the hose-like neck I interpreted it as a vacuum cleaner 👀 Also funny, but sound got a bit harsh and grating. But nice simple fun and good use of the theme!
