Chronoblink by Ben Barsdell

[raw]
made by Ben Barsdell for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

A fast-paced time-based platformer shooter.

What's your highest score?

CONTROLS

  • WASD or arrows to move and jump.
  • SPACE or CTRL to toggle slow-mo.
  • LEFT CLICK to shoot teleporter.
  • RIGHT CLICK to teleport.
  • ESCAPE / F10 to toggle menu.
  • F11 to toggle fullscreen.

HOW TO PLAY

  • Teleport into/near enemies to destroy them and earn points, but don't let them touch you!
  • Be careful, your points are only saved EVERY 10 SECONDS. If you get hit before then, the points are SUBTRACTED from your score!
  • Use slow-mo to improve your precision, but don't waste too much time!
  • Earn more points by hitting multiple enemies in quick succession. See if you can get a 10x multiplier!

HOW TO GET A REALLY HIGH SCORE (spoiler!)

  • Move around the whole level waking up all the enemies, but don't kill them yet.
  • Once loads of enemies are chasing you, activate slow-mo and carefully(!) start killing them in groups.
  • Once you have accumulated lots of points, deactivate slow-mo and wait somewhere safe until the points are saved.
  • You should quickly get a 10x multiplier and earn >1000 points each time you repeat this process.

Really interesting !
I love the concept and the gameplay. My highest score is 75 only, but I gave only 3 tries : )

Very cool game! I really like how the teleportation projectile was affected by gravity, it made it very interesting. Was fun just teleporting around.

I like the mechanic. It's difficult to master but feels great when you nail it.

facinating fun mechanism! I loved the feel of bursting around. This is a movement idea that could be explored for a long time.

It's too hard for my skills but I enjoyed playing it :) Very original idea.

I loved it, even though I'm not great at the movement (I only scored a 60). The teleporting is fun, and when you're able to aim and get a tele-kill while falling from another one, it's intensely satisfying. I'll absolutely be returning to this one.

Fun mechanic and interesting concept, damaging the enemies felt a bit fiddley though, some improvements could be made there. Overall, fun game and would love to see more!

Thank you for the experience, the mechanics would be good for a mediative time killer. I'd have one like this.

Took a couple of tries before I understood the mechanics but it was pretty cool after that. Well done! I would've probably liked a little more guidance. I'm sort of suck at pinpointing things with a mouse, so a bit more auto aim when I'm getting close to the target with an indicator that I'm on target would've been nice

Interesting concept, was very satisfying to get combos and play fast.

Fun game. The teleport mechanic/controls was much easier to pick up than I expected, even if I'm still pretty bad at it.

The teleporting mechanic was interesting. Would love to see something like that in a more fleshed out game.

The gameplay takes a while to get used to but once you figure it out it's actually quite fun! Getting those high combos while avoiding the large group of enemies following you feels really satisfying. One thing that I would change is making it so that the points you have stored get added to your total score when the game ends, so you feel motivated to get those last second kills just before the timer runs out. The graphics and audio are also really nice! Great job!

(My high score was around 1950)

This is really fun and surprisingly quick to get into. Very satisfying to teleport about and super replayable. I didn't think that the basic movement controls were actually necessary - just moving by teleport might have worked on it's own. Also worth saying, this is fun without the slowmo, but that really does add a nice bonus bit of fun. It was an interesting choice to separate the clock and the slowmo feature, so you have to trade off for points, although it does feel a bit counter-intuitive. Would definitely be interested to see a fully fledged version of this with graphics and more variation/progression etc. Great work!

The whole teleport into the enemies to kill them bit is interesting, and nice contrast with the 10s clock and using the slowmo. I would have preferred the slowmo activation on a different button as it took me a while to get used to not using spacebar to jump due to muscle memory. Good entry!

At first I was overloading my brain by trying to use the movement controls in addition to everything else. Using only (occasionally jump +)slomo and mouse movement felt much more fun to control, I wasn't aiming for a highscore with that though.

Nice idea with the slowmo/timer interplay, I didn't notice it at first.

This is a well rounded entry. Great work!

Very good concept. I think it'd be better to focus the camera more on where the teleporter is going (maybe even zooming out a bit to fit the player too) so you can go for pro plays
