Emotimon by fachscahfttf

[raw]
made by fachscahfttf for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Falling asleep has never been like this before. Probably. Every 10 seconds, just on the precipice of sleep, your mind drags up some things very unhelpful in actually getting some shut-eye. So you have to go on a little adventure to finally win against... Sleepless(ness)! And its many companions. Help Mel to face them all!

Instructions Move in the map using WASD. To interact with NPCs press SPACE. In a fight, you can click on your monster's ability cards at the bottom of the screen and once selected, you press on the sequence bar at the top of the screen. You can fill the sequence bar with as many abilities as your monster can perform in 10 seconds.

A short 2D adventure game with a deck builder fighting system.

Decent concept with awesome graphics for the sleeping screen. I enjoyed the concept of the game. Maybe working on more of the top-down aspect would help!

While I like the theme usage and the ambition of making a deck builder fighting system I have to admit I didn't enjoy the game.
And that for several reason :
- the looping music is really annoying. The loop is way too short
- the font is really hard to read
- and most important of all : I didn't get how the fighting works. I tried using the keyboard and the mouse but none work. Tried clicking abilities, dragging them... I don't get it.

In the short time available to make a jam game I feel like it would have been better allocated to a tutorial system instead of so much exposition dialog at the beginning.

If someone can explain to me how I should play (I may be dumb ^^), I'm willing to revisit the game and give it a second chance :)

@adinimys Thanks for your feedback. I don't want to give excuses, but it was a last minute landing to stitch everything together, agreeably the music and font weren't checked and could be an easy fix. As for the fighting system, I've now included some instructions in the description of the game :)

Finished the game, the fight mecanics is not easy to understand (you need to pick a monster power and then allocate it to the timeline above). The art-works during the fights are beautifull.
Making all of this, with the deck building and the story with the NPC is a trumendous work in 72H.
I would add a tutorial, as well as a longer song, because the loop is way to small.
Congrats on your game

I had the nice surprise to start with the self love pokémon, who only got heals and protections. Took me a while to understand I got screwed on the first choice and had to reboot the game.

Other than that it was pretty fun. I wouldn't have thought people could put out a pokémon game for jam entry, quite impressive!

Really neat game! I love that you can care for yourself to win.

The music was a wee bit too short of a loop for a pleasant listening experience but honestly I didn't mind, it felt very much so like insomnia.

The little pals are adorable and I love that they all get a little personality and story.

Overall it's a super impressive game for a game jam!

My only critique is that I don't think things that end at the very last moment in the timeline are used...

I still had a fairly easy time though and so it was a lovely little journey into hoping I can defeat my insomnia tonight.

Thanks for the gameplay. :D

Nice and funny dialogue. The graphics and music were good but i feel that they lack consistency. With a little more time, polish and coherence they could be really great since the style itself is really uniqe. The font was a bit hard to read. The idea was very cute tho and gameplay enjoyable. GJ!:)

I liked the idea of the sentence in the dream

I didn't understand how the combat system works at all. it would definitely need a tutorial there. The game definitely has good potential

Tried the game, looks kind of promissing, sadly couldn't get how the combat works and how to activate or use the cards?

I really liked the weird art style, I think it's very fitting for a dream-themed game. The combat system also has some really interesting ideas, sadly it feels a bit unfinished with the enemies not doing anything

Funny game. But I would like to see diversity in the environment.
