Portal shield charge by GettingRekt

[raw]
made by GettingRekt for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

Power the portal with your shield!

We can charge our shield if we block the correct enemy fire, this may be our way out of here!

Instructions

Dogfight and try only to get hit by the same colour as your shield

Controls

  • Mouse = Aim + fire
  • q + e = Turn
  • wasd = Move

Tips

  • Side thrusters are weak, try to roll and use your main engine
  • The enemies spawn with random colour, maybe you can try to kill only one type?

Of the 10ish games I've reviewed so far, I absolutely loved this concept the most. Execution was a bit frustrating.

The the flying was a bit slow and still made it hard to maneuver. The bullets and enemies were small and fast so it was hard to control which color I was shooting and ended up shooting (and missing) friendlies as much as enemeies.

I'm not great at action games so maybe someone more skills could get further than I, but there's soo much potential here.

Cool idea! I could see myself getting into this! The controls are definitely a bit difficult, but that might be good for bringing in the more technical gamers.

Suggestion:

Consider mapping the thruster to "space bar" as well, instead of just "W". I kept trying to "jump" with space and remembering that I had to press "W" instead

@fstleo Indeed, HighFleet is the most underrated game I know. I wouldn't mind having its soundtrack!

Hey I really enjoyed your game. I liked the mechanic of switching shields every 10 seconds, nice theme tie in :))
I thought the audio complemented the game both in style and gameplay. The controls were a little tough to get
comfortable to for me, i felt the Q and E buttons for turning made it tough and wonder if you removed gravity and left the ship floating to a stop instead of dropping, it might give new comers a chance at the start. Thank you for submitting and well done for doing it in 48 !! Looking forward to seeing this evolve as I love a space shooter

Cool game and interesting concept, would have been nice with a score system of some kind so I know how "well" I'm doing.

Pretty cool concept, I struggled with the controls quite a bit. Rotating with QE is not my thing in a game like this, I guess. :D Definitely reminds me of those older windows games.

Well done!
