Hope you'll try another ludum dare!
It seems that the Youtube video on the game's page is set to private...
Not really engaging in terms of gameplay but since you said it's a prototype, I imagine you didn't have time to make it more interesting.
Good job on your first game jam and overheating my GPU lol
Sad it was crashing on release day, but congrats on getting it working!
Making a game in the space is usually hard to make the player locate itself, but you added a lots of details that help.
Good job, I think you will learn a lot from that.
But thanks for the experience. Really amazing what you did for your first entry!
1. title screen: "ROLL DODG" -> "ROLL DODGE"; by the way, I know it is often hard to set up, but conveying information often works best in game, as opposed as having information before. Not blaming you given the time restrictions!
2. only clicked "OPTIONS", but coming back, I see the surfing seems to have already begun! :o
3. controls are QWERTY-only instead of layout-independent (I have an AZERTY keyboard), BUT arrow keys are enabled; however, will make my life difficult because of mouse + Q and D! (although ironically, they are aligned for me XD)
4. restart: the surfer is now greenish! :)
5. the music is *incredibly* soothing! :) Super effect on me
6. I experience some ‘lag’ when near a ‘green dust cloud’ particle effect; I guess this is much for my hardware to take (and there was a configuration panel at the beginning to choose graphic options, actually)
7. "UNIVERS OVER": oh noes! :o But I did not really see the progression, it is somewhat hard to figure out the current state of affairs. By the way, "UNIVERS" -> "UNIVERSE" (are you French as I am by any chance, seeing this, the spaces before your exclamation marks, and the pseudonym? ;) Then you have no excuse for the QWERTY business!!)
8. some sounds would add to the experience, for example, when super novas explode, and going through the little spheres
9. not sure how the green bar at the bottom works! (reading it again on the menu: oh, right! X) That was too much information for me before playing)
10. the constellations (amongst… pretty much everything) are beautiful! :)
11. on my AZERTY, weirdly enough, right roll is E instead of D! As if this one key was programmed differently. By the way, sideway rolls remind me of *Starwing* / *Star Fox* :)
12. reading the instructions again: actually, I have trouble differentiating comets and planets (and light?) in game; there are many things, so it is hard to tell!
13. oh, even planets *forming*! This is like a cosmology space trip :)
**Takeaway:** this is a particularly beautiful and poetic trip in the middle of cosmologic phenomena. Good job for visuals including effects, the whole atmosphere, the soothing vibe (while ironically, much destruction is going on!!). Even the movements are pleasant. The problem I see is that things related to gameplay are not clear enough (at least for me, I may have missed something, please tell me in this case!), although I get the general concept of navigating through the right collectible elements in order to gain boosts and time. Also, linking the theme to regularly exploding super novas is a great idea too, it feels both logical and poetic again.
A poetic space trip navigation experience that is already charming and soothing, and could become more than a prototype! Thanks. :)
PS: I know there is no sound in space, but some would really complement the beautiful music. ;) I do not know how I am supposed to assess audio, given that I love the music while there is no other sound… Just be aware that the music is incredible and that you should keep it.
