Don't Get Possessed by epb9000

[raw]
made by epb9000 for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

Find your way through a tunnel to the exit while dodging waves of ghosts! Every playthrough is a bit different, and you can alter the size of the map to make it more or less challenging.

(Apologies for the crime against music I have committed. This is my first time not using a tool to help with the initial arrangement. Volume sliders are provided!)

Post-mortem/notes:

I wanted to add a lot more variation to the rooms, but ran out of time.

Map generation is based on a Wang-tile random walker, so they're "perfect" (no loops) mazes. If you get really stuck, following right-most walls works. Making the maze imperfect was on the todo list, but such is life.

Cute game! I like the use of textures on sprites, gives it a unique feel. The music did make me feel like I was being haunted by a clown

Neat little game, I love that the directional hints are temporary - it stopped me getting totally lost and from just staring at the arrow. Nice work!

I digged the "papercrafty" art style (not sure if this is the right word for it).
It took me a while to unterstand what the 10 second timer does, but then it was fun to rush through a passage in the 10 second window to avoid getting devasted by those little ghost bullets.
The death feedback could have been more explicit, it confused me a bit because getting reset to the start without any kind of fade etc. And if the place where I died and the start point is looking kinda similiar I thought death has no consequence

Very nice, I love bullet hell games! As others mentioned, due to the disappearing directional marker, it really felt like rushing madly towards an exit, while only having a rough idea of its location.
I feel like the 10-second timer could have had more impact. While it was indeed relevant to the gameplay, its impact could have been made more apparent, wither through visual effects or a clearer difference between the phases. By my third run, I still only had an approximation of how exactly the two phases differed. Overall, I had some very fun runs and I like the art direction and cohesiveness of the submission. Good work!

@malai - Ah, good catch, I made the animation so I knew to look for it, but it makes sense literally anyone else may need a little more visual feedback. A canvas modulate fade would be easy-peazy to add.

@noirox - This is also something I hadn't considered. The primary difference is which bullet generators are active. Each only has one type of enemy bullet. (I wanted to make a mix for each phase that would be active, but time constraints left me with only one.) -- Would an image of the active bullet type(s) on the clock have made it clearer?

You managed to put a huge amount of pressure on the player with the sound design and the close up cam ! It's a neet concept I like the way the ghost chase you around

Very fun game :D I dont know what do you mean with the music, I think it fits very well and sets the mood! Didnt find any bugs in different sizes of maps.

Really appreciate the volume slider, not a given when it comes to a 48h game jam. The beginning of the music with the organs didn't sit well with my ears but the rest of the song was actually really good and fit the mood. The graphics are also really interesting. Good job!
