MAZE 51 by Lazzor

[raw]
made by Lazzor for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

MAZE 51

Try to escape the maze but don't take too long!

Rules:

  • Navigate the maze from left to right until you reach the end
  • You will be reset to the start every 10 seconds
  • Stay in safe zones to prevent the reset
  • Collect powerups to move through doors of the same color
  • Multi-colored powerups allow you to move through doors of multiple colors at the same time
  • Collecting a powerup removes your previous powerup and they do NOT respawn

Controls:

  • Movement: Arrow Keys
  • Settings: Escape

All five levels are designed by hand and can be solved. However the levels get more complex the further you get.

Quick tip: In the last level, you might need to think outside the box!

If you ever get stuck because you can't collect the needed powerups any more, just restart the level and try again.

We hope you as much fun with the game as we do!!! Two Guys from Kiel (Northern Germany)

The game is very clean, the transitions, the ui, the visuals, even if they're pretty simple
Bu the way the embed version isn"t working ^^'

Delicate and elegant maze games

And there's really no accelerator button. I haven't even reached the first level

Clean graphics, nice mazes, good for waking your brain cells in the morning.

Fun game, not very difficult :joystick:. The minimalist graphics and sound design fit well together.
I had a bit of a hard time seeing what was going on when the character was at the very top of the screen, behind the timer, but it wasn't a problem at all!

Nice little game :)

Thanks all for your feedback so far! :)

@tokithekiwi Yeah, we'll try to replace the embedded version as soon as the editor let's us. So far we've had no luck.

@brandon1037 Try to stay in the safe zones, that should do the trick! They should definitely be in reach with the current player speed :)

This is such a great game! I love the clean, sleek visual style of it. The central mechanic is a brilliant idea and its so well used in the various mazes. The resting spots seem really well chosen to give you enough time to be planning out your next move so you never feel like you're just waiting for the timer to tick down. The music is excellently chill and all the sound effects fit in really nicely.

Absolutely brilliant!

Nice little game, not too difficult and easy to understand. Love the animations and level intros. I think having the ability to operate the menus with the arrows keys and enter would be a nice upgrade.

@jhax @simplepotential Thanks for the kind words! :)

Keyboard navigation in the menus is something we thought of but it was far down on the priority list, so unfortunately we didn't have the time. But in case we continue developing the game, that will definitely be included!

Well done, clever idea. Levels are good, the last one is probably the best. I think levels could be a little bit shorter but as smart as the last one. Overall, fun game. Two minor ideas:
- after finishing level it could be better to go straight to the "levels" section in the menu,
- sometimes it is annoying when I start from the safe zone too early and get reset, maybe including some buffer would be a good idea.

Bugs:
- in the HTML5 version movement was slower and it was unplayable, idk if it's something wrong with my browser (Chrome) or with the game itself, PC version works as intended,
- in level 3 I was able to go through red closed wall before I got any power-up, maybe it somehow saved the previous one from the previous level.

Anyway, good game!

so wonderfully clean and thoughtful in design. The art matches the design beautifully and the whole of the game kept me going. I honestly really liked the camera control. It added a subtle strong touch to the design.

I liked how you can try a different path with a colored key when hit by a reset, nice mechanics!

Solid game. It seam easy at first but the main mechanic is well introduced in the second level.

With some polish it could become a complete game

Nothing extra. Simple and clear. This game allowed me to relax a bit after playing previous games...

@Lazzor Simple and awesome game! One of the best games I saw that fit well the theme. I would suggest to add a timer to record the total time you take to find the exist of the maze. Well done!

Loved the game! Nice and simple graphics. I really loved the audio, the background music was simple yet added a lot to the atmosphere and the audio cues were perfect. Great job!

Not what I was expecting in terms of level design, kinda breaking the norms with a more branching, "open world" approach to mazes. Interesting... certainly liked the look!

Great entry! I like the graphics, especially the clean UI. Mechanics are also elegant. Sometimes I really want to have a accelerate button, it is ! And maybe you can place some easier levels :D

Neat use of the theme and a twist on a classic!

I almost got through all 5, but I softlocked myself at the last door on level 5

clean and polished game, with a simple yet good mechanic. unfortunately i got lost just before the end of the last level

the only thing which was a bit annoying was, when i finished a level, i had to go to menu and select the next level manually. i think a level completion can send to the other level automatically.

overall, the game is really enjoyable to play, with just the bit of necessary frustration. good job!
