Hyper Retro Future by Frank Gevaerts

[raw]
made by Frank Gevaerts for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

Hyper Retro Future is a text adventure written in Inform 7.

It’s playable on the web.

There is no graphics or audio in this game, so I opted out of those categories.

I have included a transcript (The commands and the output of the game). This solution is reasonably complete and looks at all the essential things, but do explore on your own!

If you have never played a game like this before, you basically type what you want to do and the game responds. What you need for this particular game: Looking at things, e.g. “look at rope” or “examine rope”, or the usual short form “x rope”. Look at everything, including yourself! “look at self” or “look at me”. Picking things up. “take rope” or “get rope” Using things. You can type “use rope” Step on things. “step on thing“ Pushing things. "push button" Open things. “open drawer“

Many other verbs work too. (there are no ropes or socks in this game)

Look at everything, including yourself!

Have a look at the transcript to make things clear if needed.

I tried to make something that fit the theme better, but nothing worked...

Some of the things in the game will make more sense if you have watched the LD 41 keynote by Pixel Prophecy

This cracked me up. Love a good text adventure. I did have to peak at the transcript a bit.

!> I found the treadmill logic to be a bit finnicky. Inserting the SH card is only possible when you are standing on it. This was kind of confusing.

I love the time paradox problem. Really cool job!

Thanks for playing, @pbg! ||Inserting the card should be possible from anywhere in the room, not sure what's going on there||. Still, that's what the transcript is for :)

@mdotedot, @cookie-chr thanks for playing!

Ok. 2 things. One really awesome, the other, stuck in a loop. haha

here are pictures showing the hilarity of the awesome part. I put everything in the drawer! Even the basket.![Frank Gevaerts-HT-hehehe.png](///raw/b24/z/52dc4.png)

then the less good thing i got stuck in a loop that i didn't know what to do. Even when I looked up the answer eventually, i still had issues with getting the end to trigger. I didn't know the goal was to stop the treadmill from smoking. :-) I kept trying to feed it gameboys and jupiters.

I loved phil following us all over. ;-)

@commanderstitch thanks for playing! ||From what I can see in that last bit what you were missing was pushing the button after successfully inserting the card? It didn't work in the first treadmill because you were in the future then I think, which is a different treadmill, and by them "they" had removed the slot||

haven't played any text adventures in ages and this was a really fun trip down memory lane with cool references to LD and other gaming related topics. Well done!
