Adventures of a Lonely Pixel by AugustCoder

made by AugustCoder for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Welcome to Adventures of a Lonely Pixel!

First off, I want to apologize for how extremely buggy the game is. Just like last time, I didn't have the full 3 days free (in fact, I'd say I only had about a day and a half of usable time, and that includes sleep), but I figure it's worth putting out anyways.
Bugfixed version is HERE (the HTML5 one on this page). You can always play/download the original version with the itch.io link.

Changelog

NOTE: The unchanged version is available at the itch.io link below, if you want to see it in all its original bugginess.

  • Made player shot more visible (was practically impossible to see before)
  • Fixed the player shot direction calculations (was previously impossible to shoot to the left)
  • Tweaked the camera path to make it less jerky
  • Made the shellies actually kill you like they were supposed to (forgot to set the collider to trigger :face_palm:)
  • Fixed the camera for the final battle (you couldn't see where you were half the time)
  • Moved a few level blocks around in the final battle so you could get back up to the top (it was just a little too high to jump)

Fun, but I got completely stuck at the room with the blue orb, tried killing it, letting the turrets shoot it, nothing seemed to work.
Other than that, quite fun for how little time you had to make it!

I reached the room with the blue sphere, but wasn't able to figure out what I had to do. I thought at first that I was being brought back to last checkpoint every 10 seconds, but after reading the description, I think that having to stay frozen every ten seconds is a good concept! It provided a nice challenge on my second playthrough. Congrats for finishing this game is such a short amount of time!

@morepixels @itooh Sorry, I was literally out of time, cause I hoped to add an animation to show it getting hurt, but the blue orb has lots of health (I think it's like 10 or 15). If you keep shooting it, it'll eventually disappear. Thanks for playing though!

Nice clean neon design, good job. Only some sound effects would be nice, as user feedback.

@pascal-fitzner Yeah, I totally agree, and I would have had I had more time. (I wrote a short track for background/bossfight music but then the music making program crashed, so I had to quickly make some background ambiance :( )

Interesting stuff. I was a little confused about where the checkpoints were sometimes. I also wish there was more sound as others mentioned, and some other notes in the music to spice it up. Bloomified neon always looks good. Nice submission!

The visuals were fantastic! The jump did feel a bit floaty, and I wish that the 10 second countdown reset on each death/respawn because if I died normally 5 seconds in, the I would have to just wait around for another 5 seconds before I could realistically try again. I loved the atmosphere though! Nice work.

Some polish the be added for sure in terms of gameplay and levels, but solid foundation and it fit the theme really well :)
