Bloodthirst is a single player FPS game, kinda like doom with the cranked game mode from call of duty.

Bloodthirst

Are you ready? This is what you've been trained for.

The effluvia is thick, from our analysis, you should have around 10 seconds before you feel the effects driving you into thirst.

Kill all the bloodzerks, or as many as you can to reach evac in one piece.

Whatever you do, dont let yourself go past the edge of lust, you dont want to end up a ‘zerk.

Good luck.

Controls

WASD - Movement

SHIFT - Sprint

SPACE - Jump

Q - Spike/Melee Attack

E - Use Injector

Left Mouse Button - Fire Gun

R - Restart Level (when at the level end screen)

Bug Fixes

(03/10 13:33 BST) - Fixed a bug which stopped the game from restarting upon death.

(03/10 13:47 BST) - Fixed a bug which prevented the rage overlay from being shown and stopped the depth sound effect from being played multiple times if the user hit space multiple times at the beginning of a level.

Developer Notes

This is my first ever game jam, enjoyed myself despite the stress of coding under the clock. Almost got the scope of the game just right, I think I bit off a little more than I could chew though, I was only able to get one level finished before the deadline. I was in the process of building another but I got a devastating crash and lost an hour of work an hour before the deadline which is why the cdode for multiple levels is there and bits of design with the intent of there being more. Excited to do my next game jam :D.

I enjoyed the atmosphere you created here. Really felt like a throwback to the early FPS days.

nice job. After the end there was no 'retry' and I had to restart the game.
Graphics good and well done on the atmosphere.

Thank you for the feedback, I forgot to add that you should be able to press 'R' to restart the level once you have finished the level.

Had to just do some fixes regarding an issue where the level would not restart upon death. Everything should be sorted now. I have also supplied a build to play the game on windows. I hope you enjoy.

Love the style and feeling, would have loved to see other enemys than beans tho ;P
Took me a moment to understand the game, but after that it was really cool to play :)

Nice game  Only need more levels. An ammo pack here and there would be nice, but being forced to use melee attack is also nice.
Really liked it, well done :D

Nice job! I only played a short time as I get FPS sickness but what I played seemed good

Very impressive, and as a first game jam at that! :) The retro filter really worked and helped with enemies being simple capsules. I would like if there was some feedback for when you hit the enemies, confused me at times. Difficult which I like, the injection part made it very engaging.

Thumbs up! Hope you had fun making it too and that I see you on the next one :)

Any game with a heavy blood theme freaks me out but I gave it a go. I didn't realize that my gun was hitting the enemies, so I was just melee buckin' em.

It took me a few tries to realize how the injector works. It also wasn't clear if there was a victory condition. But I had a good time.

Nice entry for the first gamejam! The retro art style fits well in this game.

The gameplay is almost complete though there is still space for user interaction to be improved. It is encouraged to play aggressively, which made me feel involved and concentrated. This mechanic is really a boost for a FPS game. Well done!

I really liked the camera sensitinity and the old FPS vibes. Was never interested in retro versions of modern games but after playing your game I admit it might be a pretty cool idea!

Fantastic job! The controls and game play seems really smooth and it keeps you on your toes; plus, the pixelated art and the simple but hostile terrain add a lot to the mood. A couple of small critiques: the ammo display gets covered up by the UI making it feel like my gun would jam randomly, and right out the gate if you got hit once then it felt like that run was over for the most part due to that opening corridor (a sollution to this might be to give the player some blood to start with). But over all you have a coherent and interesting game, good job!

@glove Thanks for the suggestions, I fully agree about the ammo display being obstructed and I like the idea about giving the player some blood in the injector to start with. It would be a good solution.

Nice game, I was struggling initially but it got better after I started on a more melee focused approach and using the weapon only when necessary. I feel like the blood meter filled up a little unevenly (like sometimes you'd get a lot and sometimes less) but might be that I misunderstood some mechanic or simply didn't look at it right :D Anyways fun to sprint around trying to survive as long as possible, here's my score:

Great job especially for being your first LD game and a compo entry! I had a bit of trouble figuring out where to go to finish, I think I'd killed all the enemies at some point but ran out of blood because I couldn't find the exit, I stumbled upon it on another try but I had left a lot of enemies alive :P Also I don't think I noticed the ammo counter, and I think it'd be nice if you could maybe convert a little bit of blood to ammo when you're out before injecting, when I ran out of bullets most of the time I'd be overwhelmed by the enemies because they'd drain my blood faster than I could get it back knifing them. Solid game though overall, I had a good time!

Nice! It took me a little while to figure out what to do because I initially skipped the instructions, but then it was fun. My first run I killed everything and ran out of time because I couldn't find the evac zone. The second play through I beat it, but I pressed space to jump into the evac zone...and accidentally skipped the results so idk how I did lol.

A fleshed-out roguelike with this format could be fun. You should definitely experiment a bit more with this project!

Very good atmosphere + love the old look! Took a while for me to figure out I gotta go fast, and use melee more. I think only missing thing is some sort of music.
