My first game jam. \o/

Black Zen White is a puzzle/platformer game.

I didn't have time to make all the levels I had in mind but this was sure a great and fun experience. I hope you'll enjoy playing the game as much as I enjoyed making it. Please give me some feedback in the comments ;)

Got to the bonus level! The sleepy snoring block really gives it a lot of personality. If I was doing this I probably would have just made it a normal block. Great idea for the theme and very fun!

The sounds are hilarious  Sometimes I lost because I didn't know where the block will spawn, but the levels were short enough that it didn't really bother me. Actually most of the time the blocks were placed pretty intuitively, so good job there! Also you managed to design the levels in a way that the 10 second interval felt right (and not too long or short) Great entry! (especially for your first jam!)

Congratulation on completing you first game jam! And what a great game! Loved the sound effects and the puzzles were just the right difficulty for me. I think the sprite were perfect for the game as well. You should definitely keep on developing this after the jam. Well done!

I also got to the bonus level but didn't get to the end of it... Time to back and try again.

I love puzzle games and thought this was great. Heaps of levels (especially for 48 hours) with a nice progression. Got just difficult enough without feeling unfair really well designed. Level 5 was my favourite.

Graphics were good and the controls were smooth. Along with the sound effects and the physics when pushing sleepy there was a nice feel to it.

Only thing I missed was music.. but not too much the quiet was kind of relaxing.

Great game! It felt very polished and well made. Your take on the theme was very smart and the puzzles were fun to solve. The level design was great, with a nice ramp in difficulty and even a bonus level. I enjoyed this and would happily have played more!

Cute game, and with a bonus level too! The puzzles were fun. They were just the right difficulty. Nice take on the theme. The movements felt right. The graphics were simple, but they looked good and polished. Adorable sounds too.

Thanks guys for all your kind and supporting comments. ^_^ Even more touching after having played your great compos :)

@pandamander, my initial plan was to keep the big block plain white. 12 hours after the beginning of the compo, I had a working prototype with 2 plain white blocks in a medium sized level (that would became the bonus level). I showed it to @srynetix. When he saw the big block he said "oh you got a buddy there!". I thought it was a great idea! Then I thought he was not doing much so I made him asleep :P

@oadt, @pincushion and @resacagames, I am truly happy that you find the sounds hilarious, adorable or on point. ^_^ I tried my best to make them this way.

@reevest2, @vidarn and @kosmosael, I have planned to work on more levels after the end of the jam. I have a few ideas that I'd like to explore :)

@cogcomp and @pincushion, the sprites looks simple (and they are) but it took me quite a long time to get them right! I'm not much of an artist but I like simple cute and funny arts. Many of my attempts on the block design looked really weird or ugly XD In comparison, making and recording the sounds was pretty straight forward!

@thaprofesional, I wish I had more time to make a few more levels... but now I think maybe it would have been too much as an entry for the jam. I wanted to make some music... but again no time.

@oadt, @thaprofesional, @vidarn and @resacagames, I tried to emphasized my effort on controls' feeling, game mechanics, cute arts and fun level design. I've spent quite some time on game designing and play testing to make the level feels right. I thought that long levels could be a pain in the neck with those game mechanics (I am not a big fan of platform games in reality). I thought that short levels with a simple unique trick could be fun.

@kosmosael Wow! Very kind of you to compare this tiny little game to the great Ibb and Obb! I'll let you know if it ever grows big enough to find its way to Steam XD

My favorite platformer of the jam so far! Really great controls and just the right amount of difficulty for a jam game.
Would've been nice to be able to see the other side before it switches to be able to react in time and not have to learn the level first.

I really liked the puzzles on this. The movement was bugged for me: the character was constantly moving slowly to the right even when I didn't press any buttons. This happened to me in another Unity game I played this jam, so it's maybe some bug with the movement code that happens only in Firefox?
Anyways, great job, especially since this is your first game jam \o/

Beat it — though I was about to give up. Usually I'm not very good at platformers. You did a good job of making challenging levels without making them too difficult. The theme is integrated very well. The sound effects — e.g. of the falling block and Sleepy — are very good. I like the simple color scheme. The controls worked smoothly. Well done.

I beat the secret level :sunglasses:

I like the level switching mechanic and you did a lot with it! The puzzles increased in difficulty a good amount each time which kept it interesting and fun. I love the snoring box, the snoring sound is a great touch.

Cool game, bonus level completed. Puzzles were all really distinctive and creative. Sounds were funny too. Sometimes I had to wait too long, but it's not a big issue with the length of this game. Great ideas and execution.
