Two Tanks by K3y

[raw]
made by K3y for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

This is my first game jam and I am happy with my game considering I learnt how to code pong two days prior to the jam. If you want to see everything try to win after the 20 second mark. I was gonna make the missile make an explosion noise when it explodes mid air, but when I added that I had to delay the queue free to after the sound (about half a second) for it to work which made it unfair. If you have a solution please tell me.

That's a nice game for your first compo entry !

gotta admit it feels weird to be much weaker than the enemy, and only having three shots that reload in a long time! But once I understood what was going on, it was an interesting game. I think a sound effect when you are firing should make it very obvious that the blue tank is shooting. Overall nice entry for your first jam!

Satisfactory little mini-game of tank battles that is really soothing for quick fire explosive action. Controls feel responsive along with the music, which gives it a overall decent mood. One little thing, the text is really blurry, which gives the game a cheaper feel, but that was compensated for by the mechanics which were quit good. Thanks for working on this game, and great job!

It's an interesting concept, but the execution is quite tedious. Just circle strafe and fire your three shots, hopefully you don't hit a bullet by mistake, and wait for more ammo.

I found myself having to endlessly circle the enemy (in order to evade shots) without a real chance to take him down. (because I was only geting 3 shots, one of which I need to kill the rocket, and the other ones were often vaporized in the numerous bullets from the enemy.)

In the end I did not manage to kill him.

The game is interesting. Having a fight with an opponent that gets stronger over time would be interesting if things weren't so easily killed. You can defeat your opponent in ~14 seconds, easily. There's also not much change in gameplay over time. Your enemy shoots rockets and drpps turrets, but nothing more. Perhaps more mechanics and a tougher enemy would make this more interesting. Good game!

This was a brutal game! I gave it a few attempts and was never able to defeat the other tank. Each time i got ammo, he got a rocket. I managed to avoid his normal shooting because there is no turret prediction, but i wasn't able to make much progress either...

Solid entry for someone whos new! Keep it up :)

This starts out brutal, but once you notice the pattern(s) it's pretty easy to out-maneuver. The major challenges are the heat-seeking missle and circle-strafing for such a long period of time.

Great job for a first game jam and your first game programming jam!

I liked the game, very unusual idea. It seemed to me that the red tank is generally immortal). So it is not expected to see that this game was developed by one person. This game reminded me of the "Golden Age of Video Games", when there were tanks, tanks 2. Well done! You have done a great job.

This was good! I did find the strategy to be to move around in a circle. I also wish that ammo regenerated quicker/you started with more every 10 seconds.

I think this is really great for a first jam game and if you keep improving at this rate you'll be making AAAs by yourself by the end of next week :P Regarding the missile exploding audio might it be that you want to destroy the missile object while still playing the sound from it? If that is the case then a solution is to have an object responsible for playing sounds and sending a signal to this object to play that sound when the missile is destroyed :D

Fun little game! Very well balanced, took me a while to beat the other tank. Maybe more bullets/enemy health would've helped with the excitement, I had to snipe my bullets very cautiously.
Good job!!
