made by nilolo for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

Your job is to test a new research chemical that leads to side-effects every 10 seconds. Find your way through the levels and fight other test subjects. Benefit from buffs, stomach the negative side-effects, and know that everything can change within 10 seconds!

On the itch.io embed there is a Post-Jam version with an additional level, more visual effects and polish!

I didnt expect a jam entry to be this fun. The theme was adhered to and the graphics were great too.

Wow - this is a great entry. liked the screens, like everything to be honest great job! I liked the idea of potentially adding the side effects up - but would be hard to design the levels for

Completed it: it's the base for a longer game. The concept of random buf debuf is neet.

The banana gun is hilarious

Love the playstation 1 aesthetic ! great game , very funny "power", the level design have a great variety !

Knowing with the ending screen that it was made in godot (a software i also use) made me want to try to do some 3d game inside too ^^

Overhall very great game :)

@roroto-sic thank you! That's great, many 3D games are possible in Godot. Feel free to check out our source code if you're curious about something or message me if you have any questions :)

Amazing vibe. Love the art style. Kinda sad that the random side effects don't stay with you for the entire lvl. Having an amalgamation of powers if you don't do it fast enough would have been interesting. Overall a great job!

The music was a bit too annoying after a while but brought a mood that you have to hurry up. although the game is not over when the bar has reached the back. In the short time 3D is very elaborate, but you could have done more. The textures hurt the eyes. Everything a bit muddy. The idea with the potions and the change of skills and weapons is great. I like it. all in all a good job.

Yo that was fantastic. When I started I didn't expect a multiple level FPS with really solid platforming. The random effects make this incredibly fun to play and the artstyle is amazing. It's a bit too easy for my taste but I see a lot of potential here.

I really like seeing fps games here, and this lovely low-poly style of your game works really well. The banana gun was my favorite part. Great work!

Really good job! I think the only thing that felt missing was some impact on shooting / landing a hit on an enemy. Otherwise everything was well done, I really like the explosion particle effect!

Nice idea! Was cool to see all the side effects and I personally liked the retro graphics, great work! On a side note, the framerate was quite bad, but still playable.

Cool game! I really liked the concept, the trippy feeling and the general mood of the game. It didn't work in neither firefox, chrome or safari on my mac, so I had to clone the code and run it in godot :P

@martin183 unfortunately we couldn't test Mac and didn't export because we can't sign Mac executables. Glad you got it working nonetheless and enjoyed playing! The power of open-source, haha :P

This was insane! When my mouse inverted in every direction that was a real WTF :D The only thing I did not like is the laser's sound effect. The rest was just perfect. Congratulations!

@mudlee Ah, that's true. We misread the rules when creating the listing, we opted-out of it now. Thanks for pointing it out!

Excellent implementation and graphics! Also I like that your game is so polished!
I think I could be more interesting if you had done some puzzles with using effects from drug. And yeah, good little story)
Great job!

This feels like a complete package. Art style is well-thought and the game is just long enough for a jam environment so most players will actually complete it.

I have seen a couple other games using similar "new effect each 10 seconds" and I think this game did it the best so far. Debuffs are not often very fun for the player so I liked that there were also actual buffs in there. A couple of them like mirroring controls and flashing lights are probably a bit too old tricks to be fun anymore. In my book they often go to that *"ha ha"* category.

With the levels you had designed I was also left hoping that some of the effects would allow the player to do more things in the level. For example, when I was made smaller I tried to go under shelves to blindside enemies. These cannot be something like that the player could not proceed without a certain effect. But you could create levels in a way that there are bonus spots, routes and tactics the player could utilise if they happened to get a certain effect. That way the effects would not feel so much a hinderance but more like a part of the level design.

But overall, this was a nice execution of the theme. Great work!

This was sooo fun!! Loved all the random events every ten seconds -especially 'no damage' which saved me just in time xD Really challenging and good level designs. Awesome work!! :D

Very nice, good choice that all of the effects are not there to make the game harder. Also I really like the art style. If there had been more levels I definitely would have kept playing!

Not bad!

I liked:
-Sounds
-Different levels

I didn't like:
-It doesn't feel like a weapon
-Uninteresting enemies
-Uninteresting side effects

@katboo hey, thanks for reporting the issue! I had the same error on Chrome and it seems to be fixed for me with a new upload. If you still have this issue (after restarting the browser), the [embed on itch](https://fruityfusion.itch.io/experimental) should work :)

@simono hey, thanks for reporting the issue! I've uploaded a new embed that should fix the specific issue you mention.
Though someone else mentioned the game not running on their Mac, so I'm not sure if it will run (fingers crossed!)
We would've loved to provide a native Mac download but with Apple's code signing policy no one can run our games :(

Really great game, and it feels super smooth to play.

One small bug, I fell through the rising platform on the last level whilst blind.

The banana gun sound effects were amazing, make that side effect more common please!

I really like the retro look! It sets a great mood. The chore concept was pretty fun, especially given the variety of effects. Plus I find the UI very clever, both for the bar at the bottom, and the screens scattered in the levels to explain the transformation. I also like that the effects are not too punitive. It lets the player explore the mechanics and adapt to the situation without feeling that it gets too hard. Good job!

Incredible game & take on the theme! Banana & disco made me laugh. Jumping & movement in the air felt a bit like they lacked some inertia (i.e. less control while you're in the air). Lovely art style, although it would be nice if the enemies were more detailed. Anyways, great job!

Very cool concept, would love to see a full version of it. It really ads to the tension, that I can never know what will be the next side effect: am I gonna dual wield and kill everyone, or my mouse will be inverted and I'm gonna be killed instantly... xD

Also, good to see more and more 3D games made with Godot! :D

Love this so much! Best LD51 game I've played so far.

Slight issue, my mouse sometimes skips when playing the browser version. Also, no fullscreen?

@mr-rice cheers! That mouse skipping thing is unfortunate, but we noticed it too when moving it very fast..
Think fullscreen is just not supported on the ldjam embed but works on itch :D
