Dev Thoughts

Really enjoyed Ludum Dare 51, I thought I wanted this theme, but after reading much of what other people thought, I'm not so sure. Going for the compo submission and finally making it for the first time! Didn't learn too much new with this entry, as I was feeling a bit out of touch with my gamedev. However I am happy with this simple game.

Special thanks to my Abbie, Dad, and Josie for play testing.

very good big banana simulator ! gameplay is smooth and requires precision, art style is great. the lore and background is a really nice touch for a little game like this. my only gripe would be the sound effect from the PJ, but that could be easly improved in future work, keep it up !

I'm not much for platformers but I loved the vibe. If you haven't seen Sequelitis: Megaman X then I commend your innate godlike ability to teach the player exactly what to do without too much handholding.

I liked the idea of giving players single-user powerups close to, but not necessarily next to, where they are needed. So I did have to plan a little

Wow, I loved pretty much everything about this game; the quirky character, the gorgeous animation, the sound design and the smart puzzle platforming.
The double jump mechanic was really clever and the game overall was very entertaining.

Great game. I love the art, animations (the only one i missed was animation for fading out double jump), particles and the music and sounds and the overall mood of a game as everything worked well together. I like the gameplay as well, it was a simple concept done well.

Amazing artwork, cool sound (music and effects), and the exact right amount of story - made a really cool vibe. Difficulty ramped up perfectly as it went along.

This game really creatively fit into the themes category. Great art and I'm puzzled on how you coded the acid rain. Did you detect where cover was or just place a collidable object over where the rain hit?

Overall a great game. Good job!

Super cool! I had some resolution lag on the HTML when playing full screen, so played in minimized screen. Nice platforming, sick artwork (especially the double jump powerup animation), and great motivation to play through to the end!

Acid rain - :white_check_mark:

Delivering stuff - :white_check_mark:

Holding weird stuff like baby in a jar or banana - :white_check_mark:

Story that makes no sense - :white_check_mark:

Ending which leaves you confused - :white_check_mark:

Hideo, is that you? This is what Death Stranding would look like if it were made on COMPO .

Loved it, great level design and charming SFX + lovely little bg loop, nice touch with the health regen. I was amused by the rain splashs starting on the ground before the rain hits but I think that's no biggie! Really really impressed and think this was lots of fun.

Cool art and plays well. The acid rain could have been a very annoying mechanic (I've seen that in other games), but with how forgiving the game is (Regenerating health, checkpoints), the mechanic is absolutely fine. Enjoyed playing through it very much.

Very fun! Having to charge the power-ups added a fun bit of difficulty and strategy. Art also looks really nice :)

First I thought that the mechanic would be quite dull but you really managed to explore the idea during the game in very interesting ways. I also thought that the double jumping charging was annoying but then even it was quite cleverly used in the following levels so points for level design and how they utilise the mechanics!

Art style is very solid and atmosphere is great. Stylish sound effects too. I can always appreciate when someone takes the time to create sound and music for their jam games.

Overall, great work!

I really liked the little convo at the beginning of the game! Platformers aren't my favourite but it seemed to play well.

The humor, theme and sounds are very cool !

It would have been nice to have some WASD movement though, and some jumps were a bit too pixel-perfect ... but other than those two nitpicks, the game is good :)

03. Oct 2022 · 21:21 UTC
As Dahut said, I had the same impression with some pixel perfect jumps, I would also like to be able to have just one time the double jump animation when you get it to let the game flow a bit better.
Other than it nice mood especially in full screen and such a cool jump sound :p

@gangrue There are safe zones and I just detect if the player is in a safe zone, otherwise assume they're getting rained on

@ruslan-kossak Mostly recorded them and editted in in audacity, but the music was done on beepbox. Highly recommend!

@bukkaketears I love your comment so much, thanks for playing haha

The text conversation at the beginning of this def got a giggle out of me lol. A nice solid platformer with some interesting mechanics. I really loved the sound for getting the double jump.

Haha I love the text conversation! Really fun. A good use of the theme, and the consumable power up mechanic that takes time to use is a very smart idea.

The acid rain effect was really cool - game looked great overall the theme was good and gave a strangely puzzle like nature to this platformer.

Mild platformer grips need a little more coyote time on the jumps and it would greatly improve the feel.

Well done!

Wow the 10 seconds acid rain is Clever, instead of a platformer, its an Avoider lol. Got a chuckle from the intro. Want to see this as a full game.

Heya!

This was a simple entry with an innovative concept. I actually really appreciated how the 10 second timer was not shown on screen. A great example of "maximum feedback" not always being the ideal. The scenario was pretty weird (how did you come up with that???) but very creative. I thought the level designs were actually sound and the difficulty curve was well executed. The graphics weren't stellar but did the job well enough. Sound was probably the weak point here, which got a little bit grating after a while.

Overall, I had fun right up to the finish. Good stuff!

Clever game with a nice touch of humor, the rain contrasted a lot with the scenario which gave them both a nice identity. I liked the design and the graphics of the main protagonist and the scenario is weird in a good way. I guess you could have created more levels but is a game JAM so is completely understandable. I just have one question, why a banana? LOL

Congrats on your entry!

@adamcyounis @gousen-pride honestly the banana was there in the sprites early, and I was like this looks fine for now, then had no time to change so had to fit it into the story ... lol

Ok ,Your game is awsome! The fact that you don't die instant of the rain super smart.
Love the powerup doublejump animation.
Smal detail i noticed particles on the ground were there isn't anny rain yet (helped me a lot) :)

Super fun, I think this is my favorite art of any of the games I've played. And a funny little story too!

Only comment is I think the game could be a bit more forgiving, like adding a little bit of coyote time, I think it was a little hard to make some of the jumps, that being said I am pretty bad at platformers

I absolutely loved the rainy mood of this game. The rain particles and color palette choice was gorgeous. I laughed cause I thought the snail in the text was just a profile pic, only to discover he really had been texting a snail in the end. I actually thought the difficulty level of the game was perfect, cause I'm not that good at platformers and still made it to the end. It felt like everything was perfectly timed for the 10 seconds we had. When I finished the game, I was left with wanting more!

Nice job on this one, the premise/storyline was hilarious and otherwise a really solid platformer.
The audio and graphics were great too, and considering how much time you have to spend waiting for the rain to end, it's good that you had a strong idle animation for the character.
Also, I thought it was a really good idea to include a death count and invite players to try again once they finish the game, adding some replayability.

I've enjoyed your previous entries, and you've made a strong transition from Jam -> Compo with this one. Really nice work!

Solid entry here! I love that pixel art visuals! Nice colour palette and clean animation! Also good job at audio.

I think the theme was aginst you, waiting for the rain to end falling is a bit frustrating.

But absolutely it deserve more attention!!
