Time waits for no one!

Use the power of time to outmaneuver denizens of the night. In Clockwork, your hand of cards will grow stronger and larger every 10 seconds. Be careful, though, as monsters move and attack at this pace as well!

Controls - Mouse only - Click on a card to play it

Tools - Game engine: Unity - Vector graphics: Figma - Raster graphics: Gimp - Sound: Audacity - Music: BeepBox

Made in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 51 Compo, my second Ludum Dare.

Known issues:
- You can stack Minions on top of each other. This is not intended.

Needs quick thinking! I like it!

Card draw is powerful as it is in every card game haha

The difficulty really ramps up in the second half or I had bad luck :D

Fun game! I kind of broke it by putting multiple cards on one spot though Not sure if that was intentional. But great work!

Although there are some bugs, but overall still very interesting, your UI and music is very great!

Nice work! Pleasant to play, looks and sounds nice too! It may have just been the cards I was dealt, but it felt like the enemies were getting stronger faster than my cards could synergize. I may be misunderstanding something though. Either way, this is a good entry!

Great game, but it seems hard.

Very nice graphics and mechanics.
Although there are a few issues (stacking minions) it is very well polished
Nice one

Neat concept, plays super nice and the graphics and audio are super crisp. Personally I felt the difficulty ramped up a bit too quickly but that may have been me playing poorly or getting a poor hand. Other than that a really solid entry!

Thanks to everyone who played  @thx4nothing @linwenhao @davidbradbury @dyguests @haydads @rickylee @ghostbomb @ex3d0

I worked hard on this and I hope it shows.

It is difficult but I felt that made it more engaging. I originally tuned the Minions much stronger and I felt like I could just coast to the end behind them, and as a player I didn't need to think about my decisions any more. Like any card game sometimes you get great draws and sometimes no so much  I think the Repair card is very strong right now, and I'll also add: you don't need to kill the boss, you just have to deplete the Beast deck to win. At least for this version

Really fun, loved how you can combo the cards and get some super juiced ones to play.

Great job making actual card game! Did you had some base code before jam or is all done in just two days? Also, due to "10 seconds" mechanic game feels kinda slow at the beginning

Great take on a strategy game! Minions were unique, card mechanics worked well, the music was spooky, art was really nice, all in all your game has a great vibe. Well done!

@dnivie If you stack Tune-up correctly you can get the power levels very high

@bassilij @sayurinyooko I'm glad you enjoyed it, that's wonderful.

@stupidhobbit No base code. I had thought about making this type of game before though, so I had an idea of how I wanted to architect it. And yeah I agree, I'd imagine it can get slow on repeat playthroughs. For the first few, I wanted to make sure people had time to read the cards.

@eugenik I think there is a lot of variance depending on your draw and how the enemies spawn. There are likely some cases that are extremely difficult or not winnable from the beginning-- if I had more time to work I'd do another balance pass to prevent that kind of thing from happening.

@pixelydian Thank you so much :)

@climbing-dolphin I'm glad you find it fun! I was worried it would not be.

What a neat game! Using the cards along with the board definitely makes for some fun mechanics, and the overall gameplay was pretty intuitive, which is hard to do. It was also quite pretty and sounded great. I'm impressed! One thing that bugged me - and maybe I was missing something - was that there didn't seem to be an "undo" option once I clicked a card. I think that's the biggest thing I'd want to see, probably with a right-click. But I like the depth of the systems here and I'm glad I downloaded it. I'll probably return to this one!

@mrwarranty cancelling cards was one QoL feature I had on the list but didn't get to. You're 100% right.

Man, I found this too difficult. Even after I figured out all the strategies, I was just not able to come close to winning. The main mechanic is cool, and it's a nice take on the theme, but I either had terrible luck, or I'm missing something. It took a while to figure out that cards in my hand got upgraded every turn, and I couldn't tell if it was ever worth holding on to cards. Having a hand limit really made cards that draw x additional cards a dangerous play, as it just forces me to lose cards that I had been leveling up.

I recorded myself playing, so you can get some extra feedback:

I liked the idea behind the upgrading mechanic. At first it seemed like it added a layer of hand management, but units also upgrade when they're on the board? I got to ~10 enemies left, but they were so strong at that point that I didn't have much of a chance. It seemed like their levels were roughly keeping pace with mine, but my strong dudes would eventually run out of HP and then I'd be back at square one.

I liked the sequencing decisions that came from stuff like card draw and upgrading everything in hand: I think you could add a lot if you lean in that direction!

:D Fun game! I wasn't very good at it. The graphics are 👌. The sounds were great. The pacing felt good. The mechanics and gameplay are simple but effective and fun!
