## StopShot

Oh no! The agents stole all your stars! But you have something better: the ability to pause time! :watch:

StopShotScreenshot.jpg

This is my first game jam ever, and I only had about 24 hours to complete it due to scheduling issues.
This is a VERY short game (10 mins at most), more of a gameplay demo.
I don't expect this to do well, but it was fun to make, and I hope it is fun to play as well!

Controls:
WASD or arrow keys for movement.
Left Click or Ctrl to shoot.
Space for time stop.
Windows Only Alt+F4 to quit

I think it would be more enjoyable if you could see farther. I know this is what the time stop is for, but it gets boring having to wait the time stop for every area with more than 1 enemy.

A great first jam game, especially considering you only had 24 hours. All the need-to-haves are there like collisions, the stop time ability, etc. Can't wait to see what you make next time!

Hey @purpoappo, if you played the HTML5 version, did you make sure to go full screen? Also, what is your screen size, ratio, and resolution? Just want to make sure it's not a scaling issue. The other thing, besides the time stop, is that you can hide and peek out of cover. Thanks for the criticism though!

It's like a first time jammer's Superhot! Well done! :D

Tip: in itchio you can set the resolution of your game, try increasing it so people can see further away without making it full screen!

@augustcoder - How do you move? I'm using the HTML5 version. I can shoot without an issue but no keys seem to move the player

@simplepotential it should be WASD keys. If that doesn't work, try fullscreen. If that still doesn't work, let me know what browser/operating system. You can also try the Windows version if you are able.

@augustcoder - I tried Edge and it worked this time. Chrome is working now too so must of been an itch.io glitch. Updated my rating. It is a nice entry especially for a first time jammer. Nice job!

Good stop-time mechanic. Maybe the characters could be smaller.

idea is good, and can be implemented even further, not sure how it fits with theme, collision is weird, bullets can hit you trhough walls. sometimes i get multiple hits to die, but sometimes i get 1 shoted. not sure if headshots are a thing. good job for doing it in such a short time

Really like the time-freeze mechanic which plays to the theme. Definite oppportunity to expand this further after the jam. Well done.

Great idea. A bit tough! Tweaking the hit boxes and sizes of the levels could go a long way in making this super fun.

The concept here is pretty good! While the game *is* rough, you did well considering it's your first jam and you only had 24 hours! The controls work well, and the main issue the game faces is adjustments to collision and hitboxes. There's nothing special about the art, but it is at least clear and doesn't disorient players. Nice work overall!

Pretty good! The collisions were sometimes a bit wacky and the game is quite unforgiving with checkpoints and health, but I still enjoyed it! I also really liked how you made the main character aim! Good job on your first game jam!

For a first game jam effort, and only 24 hours' work, this is pretty good! The controls are tight, and you've managed to pack in a few different mechanics. The time stop in particular is very impressive, and opens up some interesting gameplay opportunities. I found that the best strategy to deal with enemies was to hide where they couldn't see you, then stop time, move into the open, fire a couple of bullets, and then hide again before time resumes.

The execution does need some work, though. Bullets clip through the wall blocks and don't stop until they emerge on the other side, so you have to be careful when hiding behind cover. Sometimes if I fired while time was stopped, my bullets would immediately disappear as though they'd hit something. The section at the end with four enemies is also too much to deal with and I died there every time.

I will say, however, that in my experience with Ludum Dare, collision detection is ***the*** hardest thing to get right, so don't beat yourself up about the problems you've had with it. Hopefully next time around you'll have more time to work on your game and get it polished before the deadline. I wish you all the best for it!
