it's a bit hard to walk when you pick up the dudes.
For more constructive criticism I would say move at least the stress level indicator to a HUD, so you can watch it deplete while you are not in the ship. That would also fit with the concept of having a "Personal Helmet Assistant".
It wasn't clear which of my actions were actually helping me progress in gaining their trust. Was it me clearing the berries from underneath my ship? Was it just time passing?
Great job overall!
Two issues, though: It was hard to determine what was earning the creatures' trust. I tried feeding them, sitting in the pond with them, singing to them, and eventually I got their trust, but I had no clue what was working or not.
Also, the textures look really photorealistic. Were they all made by you?
Thanks for the comment about my voice, most of the clips were done in a single take due to the short amount of time available.
As for the gameplay, the original design called for feeding and helping the creatures to earn trust but I didn't have the time to implement any of that. The only thing you can do now to earn trust is to stand around and let them get used to you.
I once had them down to low stress levels, but then couldn't resist suddenly jumping into the pool of drinking aliens. (INSTANT 100% HIGH STRESS, and I only half regret it!)
Then in order to finish the job, I busied myself with kicking berries around, into the pool, at the aliens, etc. Makeshift soccer, haha!
There should also be a lose condition. Like, on my first run, I killed all the aliens in their own home, but nothing happened, so I had to ESC/try again manually. I think there is an opportunity for a humorous voice clip there. :)
Their screams of terror were also pretty funny. Great job!
Something weird happened when I picked up a creature that was moving. It was suddenly very hard to move with it, as if I had to "fight" the speed vector the creature had before I picked it up.
The game is missing terrain boundaries, some music perhaps, and probably some bug fixes (probably what I described early was a bug?), but it's a seriously good entry.
I'm also a fan of how the game "taught you" to play through the "mission control" voiceover. It explains you enough to play the game, but it's still up to you to discover how to collect the samples and befriend the creatures.
Well done, man :)
The way you used your voice was really well done, and the explanations/objectives are clear and really easy to understand! :3
I had some glitches with the aliens' feet and once, when I tried to board the ship, but nothing serious.
Good Work! Cheers! :D
PS: We have fixed our game, if you want to see it again. ^^
Thank you.
