The Endless Night by Arivenzys

Vampires like the night, that's a well-known fact. And one particular vampire loves it so much that he created a little magic ritual to prevent the sun from rising. The only problem is that it makes him very thirsty...

So go out in the night to feed on some hapless civilians! And as a bonus, it also turns them into little vampires themselves! If only those pesky hunters could leave you alone...

Use WASD, ZQSD or Arrow Keys to move and E to interact with the environment. Prolong the night as long as possible. The longer your hold, the more you'll score! Move around the town to feed on civilians and recharge your blood meter. That's your energy to make some magic! Also, you'll gain a nice little emo vampire who will follow you and earn you more points.

Avoid the vampire Hunters, they want to kill you! At least they're slow, but they're relentless. If they spot you, their Vigilance will increase... but you can go at the concert to hide a little!
Prevent the Priests from stopping your magical endless night. They'll come right for your manor, so watch out!
Finally, use some of your magic to summon zombies to get rid off a Hunter. Because they'll keep on coming and coming until you're overwhelmed...

Stall the Night, Transform Civilians, Avoid Hunters. Should be easy enough, right? Well, share with us your best score!

At first I was very confused with controls and was pretty disappointed.
Then I read the comments and saw a guy mentioning changing the scheme so I went back and HAD A BLAST.
This game has lovely graphics, nice sound design and the gameplay is FUN.
Trying to juggle between the resources is so much fun and very well balanced!
And having this detailed and cute tutorial for a jam game is huge plus.
Really nice game, I like the different metrics to keep track of.
One time I was so busy eliminating guards that I almost forgot to do the night-ritual.
Everything is pretty well executed, great job!
And I reaaaaaally love the visuals
Go away and make money with it,.. we are fighting for shitty, rusty, ugly, uncomfortable, buggy stuff here))
I gave you best scores to make you win and never see here again. ;)
But the controls are really a mess - WASD seems not to work properly on WebGl.
I wasn able to go up and left (i needed to use Q for left and Z for up). Also arrow keys doesnt worked.
This would be nice to fix this in later version as this is important.
The visuals are incredible good and also the humor :D
Reminds me a bit of Hotel Transilvania .
Visual is beautiful! Very fun! I didn't understand why I died, but I got 5 children and 2 cursed monks =)
Thank you for your game, great job!
Overall very nice game design paired with cute graphics and great music and sounds.
As a lover of vampire trivia this is great!
Thanks for making this game!
Other than this, this is really something to be proud of! Awesome!
I couldn't figure out the controls at first as the default ones are very awkward on my keyboard. But thankfully I read in the comments that you can remap them in main menu. That helped.
There are quite a few interesting mechanics, but I kind of felt like it's maybe too much to track at the single time, something was constantly happening while I was doing the other thing. Also, I got score of *minus* 344 stars, is this a bug, or am I that bad?
Good job overall!
So, to answer some of the questions:
Yes, we're from France and our keyboards here are AZERTY (so for us, the default keys are ZQSD and not WASD). Sorry for the issues some of you encountered, we'll try to upload a patch to make WASD the default option!
@lawrence The 'stars' at the end is just the symbol for the score, and the '-' is for the separation. The number is your positive score (can't be negative thankfully), sorry for the confusion!
@tyrannas You can eliminate one hunter (and gain some points) by doing a ritual at the cemetery, but you'll need enough energy to do so.
Maybe a small bug(?):I changed the keyboard settings to WASD and played for a while. Then went back to the main menu to read the tutorial again. After that the keyboard was resetted to ZQSD and I had to restart. Nothing major though. :)
Good job with the game!
Great submission, there were a few issues with the enemy pathfinding and conveying which building was the mansion but for the most part it was intuitive after reading the tutorial.
The graphics and sound were cohesive, with the former being particually impressive. Really enjoyed this one guys!
Didn't get from the first sight how I should use manor, but finally got it
The art is really good, your artist has real talent, and I love the style! Really stylish and fun.
Great work, thanks for sharing!
Well done! Great graphics, gameplay, and Audio! I appreciated the tl:dr at the end of the tutorial as tbh I didn't exactly read it super well. I feel like the balance between map size, movement speed, and enemy speed/aggression was perfectly done!

Definitely a 5* in more than one category for me. Great job guys :)
(Note: I didn't have any technical difficulties, apart from three or four instances when characters got stuck in trees and other coliding environment.)
But we were two artists working on this (Ikowa for the animations and me for the arts)
This entry is awesome
I think the gameplay itself was a little bit underwhelming. It was great in that the challenge was enjoyable and the way it was presented was crystal clear. However, I think I just expected...more. It felt to me that it needed a larger map or more variation in terms of danger. The ramping challenge was not enough to keep it engaging within the current primary loop.
That said, it was a beautiful game with some really cool concepts, mechanically and thematically. I'd love to see an expanded version!
The only issue I had was identifying my "house" to get the light meter down.
Overall a fantastic game!
The art is adorable, and I love all the animations.
Great job!
The quality of the in-game tutorial is amazing.
Great job! Fit the theme perfectly!
all the way, I'm super impressed.
The bite animation on the screen and sound effect were soooooooo satisfying!
Thank you so much, I am very pleased to read this comment, à @mhorth !

Hiding building in front of the camera was perfect.
was an overall great experience
I think the game itself was simple but fun, escalation was at a good pace and gave me plenty of time to learn the mechanics in my first run without getting overwhelmed. Music fit the mood and the art was cute af.
Great work all round, well done!
The game works pretty well, and the stress factor works well. I saw very few issues in your game. The first one is that guards are often stuck.

Another thing is that the game could benefit for sound FX when we are spotted by a guard, when the night is coming to the end, etc. Since there's a lot to focus on, I feel that it really could hep the player.
Overall, you made a super nice game, with a lot of polish. Graphics are cute and beautiful, it's fun, the tutorial is super clear with a nice recap at the end of it. That's a really great jam game!
As already mentioned, some additional visual quality-of-life features would be nice (manor being a different color, guard detection radius being more visible), but it's otherwise really fun!
(Par contre je comprends pas du tout pourquoi les gens se plaignent des contrôles ^^)
After the first few tries I couldn't work out why I kept loosing, until I eventually found where I can turn the night back, It wasn't very clear that house was my manor and it was where I spent my energy to turn back time. It's also very hard to tell if a guard has spotted me or not, I don't really understand how the priests work (so I just kill them when they spawn and that seems to work fine). And finally, I couldn't for the life of me find the replay button on the game over screen (I couldn't tell the drawings on the paper where also buttons), I eventually worked out be clicking everywhere.
The biggest issue I had with the game though was that it can be unclear sometimes of why you lose, as I sometimes lose while having neither of the night/manor bar nor the light/guards bar full. I don't know if it's due to some bug or if there's a hidden night timer.
Another smaller issue is that the manor doesn't stand out enough from the other town buildings, it could use in looking more sinister/darker so it can be instantly spotted.
Game itself is fun! Could use some SFX for alerting the player to some resources or being spotted, and the guards could sometimes spot my "children" but not me, but it's only cuz one of them was stuck somewhere and the guard found him. Which makes it so I feel like I lost out of nowhere (till I realized what the issue was), so apart from the pathfinding issues and lack of some SFX (quality of life, more so than a bug) the game was super well polished, great art! great gameplay. Very solid entry.
It took me a while to figure out how to summon the zombies. I had kinda forgotten that from the tutorial and since you can only do it from one side of the graveyard, I didn't stumble upon it by accident.
I had a hunch from the art style but I see some of you are French, cocorico! :rooster: (that explains the ZQSD... thank you for that)
Really love the atmosphere of the game. Graphics and audio are great!
Having a hard time coming up with things I didn't like. Good job!
Pretty good game !
Fun mechanics, interesting interpretation of the theme, and smooth difficulty curve.
Amazing Entry!
