TEST TECH S.A.Your expiration is inevitable. by Confidant17

[raw]
made by Confidant17 for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Welcome to TEST TECH S.A. Our results are our most important thing. Your unwilling participation, and expiration is deeply apreciated.

Tech test is a prototype game, made solo by Mauricio Albanese, for the ludumdare 50 gameJam. based on the theme "delay the inevitable".

In TECH TEST a company has bringed a "Voluntary subject" to its company test grounds to try out their newly production of mech's, weapon's and arsenal, all thrown to you in a flurry storm of metal, laser's and misile's. As TECH TEST logo say's your expiration is expected, and greatly apreciated. Drones and mechs wont stop spawning until you meet your inevitable fate, in fact they will increase in number's. all for the sake of TECH TEST.

CONTROL'S:

move: w,a,s,d

shoot: left mouse button (LMB).

enter/esc: pause.

In TECH TEST your inevitable fate is met not by a timer. but by your own skill. You will die, but at your own pase. Your HP is linked to your controller's, each control is worth 2 hp. meaning that you have 10 hp. for each 2 hp you loose you will loose briefly the use of one of the control's. But if you survive long enough you can regain them again. This means that every time you loose a control and enemy's are greater in number, it will bring your expiration even sooner... all for the sake of TECH TEST result's.

Have fun and good luck.

I struggled a lot with the mouse, I could only shoot into the upper left, and if I moved my mouse too far, it would go outside the window and minimize the game if I clicked. The audio was really loud, but I liked the art, and I really liked that I would lose the ability to move some directions if hit.

Really great sound and aesthetics! I do think a round lasts a little too long, I got 13600 on my first attempt. I'd suggest adding another element to the game, e.g. ammo. Controls were snappy and game feels fun and polished, and your controls being affected by getting hit is quite clever. Nice job!

The art and sound were cool. I liked the concept of your controls functioning as your health but I kind of wish the controls dropped off randomly instead of in the same order. Nice job!

Nice game! The unique health system is definitely really cool, and I like how it makes it so that taking damage makes things temporarily harder, while also giving you a chance to fully recover if you play it right. Eventually the enemies stopped spawning from the bottom, so I was able to get 49,200 points by moving from left-to-right in a U shape. I think it would be possible to survive forever if you avoid making a mistake like I eventually did.

The gameplay felt tight and polished, and I really liked the music. Well done!

The mechanic for health are well thought out but the order of loss of control could be random. The challenge makes you want to restart a game but with an additional type of enemy it would be perfect. Sounds and feeddbacks are good too. One flaw: I often lost sight of the cursor. I think it should be more visible! Thank you for this good game =)

The art is stunning, sounds are well made, and the loss of control is a wonderful idea. I played several times, just enjoying the level layout, the music, and the beautiful enemies.

Already, so much of a great game is here - if you ever feel like playing around with making changes, here are some tests worth exploring:
* Being able to shoot rockets would force the player to switch between running, and precision aiming when they are stunned
* Making control loss much shorter, but more common, so it becomes more part of the play, and less likely to snowball to death
* Making the enemies spawn in 'waves', then during the interim the character gathers pickups to heal - calm moments serve to intensify the battles, and give the player something to look forward to.

Pretty cool game and great art! I liked the concept of losing controls for a temporary time if you're hit. However, sometimes even when not hit the controls were half a second slow to respond, like moving in a different direction. Not sure what was causing that. Other than that it was a lot of fun!

Great mood. Fantastic music! Solid and clean gameplay action with a unique damage mechanic.

This is a very and tight jam game! Kudos on the juice, too! Juice can be something that's missed in a game jam due to time constraints but I loved how good shooting and hitting enemies felt. Perfect amount of screen shake.

Really good job on this! Especially impressive for having done it solo!

Super cool game, with sound effects that sound like they're right out of Gundam Wing. SCHWING!!

The only improvement I could think of would be the UI - when the player loses one of their controls I didn't even realize until near the end that it was shown in the corner of the screen. Maybe something like a big red X covering the broken control

Awesome job!

The mech art is really nice! Loss of control is an interesting game mechanic in this case. Quite surprised when I saw the big mechs spawn.

I agree with some of the comments mentioning having some visual queue on which direction is broken. Well done!

Smart use of broken control! ( visual clue would be nice ) but it’s also challenging.
Art is just awesome 👏

I liked the game. It was an interesting concept. I would say that give the player some time to respond instead of suddenly taking the response away. I would also like to see more mobility from the player's side, such as dashing, blocking, etc. This has a lot of potential. Great work!

I love that pixel art for the robots! really fun game, managed to get a highscore of 18,000! I really liked the unique mechanic of where if you got shot one of your controls gets disabled, although it made the game VERY difficult in late stages, but hey, its not meant to last forever :) I was wondering if for the design of the flying robots you were inspired by the Warhammer Tau Drones? I thought they reminded me of those! Super good entry :)

The game is really fun! Having damage taken restrict your controls is a nice mechanic, though it is a bit annoying how it always disables in the same order (being unable to move to the sides can get you in a tight spot since all the enemies come from above and below). It also seems like movement is a bit delayed while you are shooting. Graphics are really nice. I love the feedback when shooting with the screen shake and enemy explosions!
