Cup Half Full by BangTheWall

[raw]
made by BangTheWall for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

!!!OUR GAME IS NOW LIVE ON GOOGLE PLAY!!!

CUP HALF FULL is a Tetris like game where your goal is to keep the falling blocks from overfilling your cup. To do that, you can stack blocks in a way to create horizontal lines, that then vanish and award you points. To add a little bit of chaos, the blocks are very bouncy and like to knock each other out of their positions.

Pic 1.png

CONTROLS: Click and Drag to move blocks around

This game was made for the Ludum Dare 50 Jam with the theme "Delay the Inevitable"

Assets used: Music: Evan King - Thermal https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT1ZkP03V18LmOj8zbyP-Dw? https://contextsensitive.bandcamp.com/

Thanks for playing :D

Fun game I typically dont download too many Jam games mostly going for ones with web builds but I made an exception for yours as it looked really interesting and It most certainly didn't disappoint. The vibe was great and the game play had me fighting with it but in a good way great job!

Unfortunately ran into some UI issues, this is on a 1080p TV with 150% scaling in Windows. I tried to disable scaling for this application but still had the same issue.

Haven't given a rating as I wasn't able to play but looks cool!

Enjoyed it! I was first approaching it as tetris, but it is different. The bounciness makes certainty not a thing, so I just picked a block from the lower ones and lifted it up in most cases, betting on the others falling into place. When there was one empty square in a a row, I tried grabbing a piece with a bomb and putting the bomb there, so it added another dimension of thought to it. I liked this game. Graphics and sound were also very "bouncy" :P

Cool game, really enjoyed it. Did encounter an issue (on WebGL version) where it froze after 2 bombs exploded in quick succession. Not sure if related to that however.

It gave me vibes of some of the tetris variants I've seen on YouTube such as soft body tetris and aerodynamic tetris. Great job.

Great submission! It's the Tetris that you love, but now 40% more cursed.

Concept is simple but good, and the execution was really solid. The only issue I ran into was that I was using a smaller monitor and had no way to resize to fit my screen (at least on the WebGL build).

Nice work!

I've had my fair chance of reimagined tetris games, yet, this one feels genuinely fun. Smart decisions that lead to a absolutely different experience from the original.

This is a fun take on tetris and I really liked the visuals of it. The controls were a bit frustrating sometimes when you spend a minute trying to get a single brick into place and it just does not want to fit in. Maybe a little bit more space (horizontally) could have fitting in bricks that just don't want to rotate correctly.

Whoa this game scared the hell out of me when I first saw a screenshot. I was like "it's going to be all chaos!" and then it wasn't. It felt very satisfying when I started clearing work, like I had really accomplished something. Then after a while it started to feel slow sine I just had everything cleared for a really long time. For me I think increasing the difficulty a bit faster earlier on would help a lot. Overall though great game and very genuinely entertaining.

My partner and I are now in a friendly war to see who can get the higher score. I'm pretty proud of my 4280 and will edit once I get his score. All this to say, we were immediately taken by your game!! The concept is great and the music loop is absolutely spot on. One thing I might suggest is not letting the loop fade--for a Tetris style game, I need the Tetris-style motivation! Awesome entry overall. :)

I LOVE the idea, but the execution is SO frustrating. Why are the blocks so bouncy, I manage to line them up so I need just one tile and BAM rain of blocks fall full speeed from the sky and disrupt everything I built. I played 4 times and not once did I lose because the blocks reached the top from glass being full, but because I was so irritated that I pushed everything out (a really cathartic feeling). Overall really solid and polished entry but bounciness and speed of the blocks ruined the experience for me :(.

06. Apr 2022 · 09:34 UTC
This game has some obvious similarities to our game. But then is also completely different. I can see you faced some of the same issues and design ideas we did. The bounciness is something we also had for a short period of time. For our game we decided to remove it, as the container was way smaller and one of our challenges is to prevent items from falling outside. But for this game it fits perfectly.
Well done I really enjoyed it.

When all the bombs explode together,i feel super satisfying~ However, when bombs became less and less, the game was too hard. The width is losse, but not loose enough to stuck a single cube easily, especailly when it was suppressed by tons of stuff. My best score was over 7000~

Grabbed the android port and have only played that.

This was alot of fun! Frustrating at times and I kinda agree with maybe seeing how making some pieces rounded works gameplay wise. I'd also like power ups of some kind to vary the gameplay.

I also feel a falling block game needs more 'juice' and varied sound design to increase enjoyment.

Otherwise concept is strong and most important fun. Glad to have this on my phone for a fast play when I need it!
