Defence Under Construction by RAFFE

[raw]
made by RAFFE for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

In Defence Under Construction the monsters have launched an all-out attack towards a fort that houses the final remains of the humankind. With no defences to speak of and enemy troops closing in from all directions you, a mere mortal, are tasked with constructing an impenetrable defence to hold back the armies of Satan himself. The enemy has hoards of undead soldiers, swarms of bloodthirsty vampires, hypersonic fighter jets with 1000-megaton nukes and the big and gruesome chungi. You have $0 in cash and maybe a LVL 1 starter pistol. Delay the inevitable. Obliterate the hell. Save the humanity, or die trying.

Defend your fort against 20 waves of hellish monsters in a dark but eerily beautiful world filled with immense amount of detail (drawn by @RAFFE) accompanied with a certified banger of an ORIGINAL soundtrack (by @HappyTomato). Experience satisfying gunplay and tower defence like action in an addictive gameplay loop (@JustMars, @eleeve & @Jokku) juiced up with particles and visual effects galore (@Jokku).

The game has been tested and verified to work beautifully on Valve's recently released Steam Deck handheld PC. If you own one, please give the Linux build a try. With that being said, you could also use a regular controller (PS/XBOX etc.) on your device, and have an amazing experience. Have fun!

Super addictive game! I played it for quite a long time, what I noticed is that the monsters were getting more and more difficult to kill to an almost impossible level, it would be a good option to add weak points (such as instant death by headshot), the design and the art of the stage are excellent, what happens is that on the left side the biggest monsters get stuck on the steps. I really liked the effects of the particles and without a doubt that incredible music O.O, which at first is very loud, but by adjusting the volume you can hear the sounds of the gameplay. Great job! With a lot of potential to continue polishing!

Great job on the game, some complex stuff going on here that also has a fair amount of polish. Would love for some of the basic zombies to have less health. Some way to quickly get between sides or shorting up the tunnels a small amount would go a long way in improvements. All in all great entry, you should be glad.

This is the best game I've played so far. Music, graphics are great. The game is fun and feels pretty polished. Buying new guns, upgrading them and building towers is satisfying while the theme is well respected. Good job guys!

First off, fantastic audio and aesthetic! Controls felt super quick and snappy, really easy to figure out and aiming was a breeze. I'd recommend squishing down the level size a bit, I found myself doing more running than shooting usually so I could ensure I had more money for more towers. Rewards for headshots also would have been sick! You did some great work here.

Great game, the graphics were really cool. Its quite impressive how your team managed too add different guns and upgrades in such a small amount of time. I also really liked the zombie animations. But I would suggest having more zombies appear each wave because I feel like I have to hunt for zombies rather the zombies hunting me. Anyway, the game was really fun, good job!

Nice game! The gameplay is not anything super innovative, but it's polished and well-executed. The pixel art is very nicely done, and I'm impressed with the flag animations. The music works well for the general aesthetic of the game. I do wish that there were more enemies spawned per wave, or that their spawn points were moved in closer, but it does feel like I'm either waiting for them to arrive in a minute at the start of a new wave, or running far into the caves to hunt them down. Despite that minor gripe, this was good.

Good entry!

Hey, I have one question, why didn't you guys build a web version too?
Since my first LDJam that people told me to do a Web build because it would help more people to play your game <3

But now changing the subject: I loved the art of the game it's looks sooooooo cool xD

I enjoyed this a lot. The shooting felt great, watching hoards of zombies explode into splatters of blood was really satisfying. The music was awesome too, and fit well. It might be nice if their was an indicator pointing in the direction of the zombies though, I kind of just randomly ran back and forth.

This was great. I just lot it when I saw the giant spiky monster lol. The map is fairly big, so a minimap might have been good. Great music and use of blood splatters and such.

great game and graphics, my issues are that the
towers seem to have infinite range
and that the level is way too big

This was really fun to play! It seemed to be a bit easy early on and the towers were pretty over-powered because of their range.

I wasn't sure what the UFOs did until I got to about wave 13.

Music really set the mood. One of the few games where I actually wanted to crank the music!

Animations were really well done. I had trouble seeing some of the flying enemies, especially the bats?

Some sort of game over screen would have been nice as well. I beat the game, it zoomed out for the end sequence and it stayed zoomed out but I could still play.
