Description

Ludum Distractio is an attention/time management game where you have to delay the inevitable distractions over the course of a day as you try to get your code free of bugs. But beware, if you neglect certain things for too long, they might be irreparable.

Features

  • Friendly, colorful atmosphere
  • Moody music!
  • So many jokes in the code, I can't even!

How to play

There's a How to Play section in the game (with pictures!). With your mouse move to a line with an error (squiggly red line) and hold the left mouse button down until the bar fills up. Rinse and repeat. Don't forget that there's a scroll bar at the right-hand side in the game's monitor!

Controls

  • Mouse click and hold to resolve

Credits

A game by LadyMistLeaf (programming, game design) and Phil Strahl a.k.a. Pixel Prophecy (visuals, sounds, music) made in 72 hrs. We planned for so much and sadly, neither dog nor cat made it into the jam entry :(

This was a fantastic entry, loved the level of detail and all the small programmer jokes.
The WebGl version is a little bugged (can't scroll with the mouse wheel, UI is not scaled correctly so you can't see the progress bar for all elements)

This one made me chuckle, good job. I only get a score of 70, but I think I'll come back to this game and try to improve it!

Really great game :D i just got managed to solve 20 from 27 bugs haha.

The clickzones feel sometimes that you can hit them properly (had some problems to bring the paper into the copy machine for example).

I like the art style and the humor inside the code. (Also great Pixelleaf logo :D) The game mechanic is simple but cool. Have to say that I ran into some small bugs like e.g. in my first run there was no cursor in the result screen or opening the door seems a bit wrong, but that all was not too dramatic.

Too bad the cat and dog didn't make it in the jam version :( Otherwise great entry!

This is so great. Had to run it through a few times just to read all the code!

Feels well balanced; a run or two to figure things out, another to get the timings and controls, and finally after just the right amount of stress manage to reach completion and feel the tingling sensation of making a compiler happy.

If a distraction is ongoing when the scoreboard appears the distraction continues and the item breaks; and the score updates! Not sure if that's intended or not but I found it hilarious in the "well of course, just my luck" kind of way and goes well with the setting :)

Thank you for creating this!

This is great! I loved the nice tidy visuals, the music was great, and the whole concept was very meta for LDjam.

Only problem I had was finding where paper for the printer and the lightbulbs were kept. When I found them, I couldn't pick up the lightbulb so was never able to fix the light.

Other than that, I really loved this game. Well done!

Love the art style, sound, and the whole idea! Ran into a few small issues such as finicky click zones (especially the watering can/plant) and the door opening into another door? The code was fun to read, though I wish you could use the scroll wheel to scroll through the code as I would often find myself overshooting and missing bugs.

Great job!

there is never enough polish in a game with @philstrahl.

As mentioned above, hover detection seems a bit wonky, but neat game nonetheless.
I got stuck on the game over screen, but that's not really important.

Cant wait for the post mortem.

Oh I love the art style already! I am writing this before i even downloaded the game... but had to write that! Cant wait!

Love the art style. There are some bug in the web version, like the back button at the end didn't work.

Is there a way to change the lightbulb when it burn out?

Also is there a door behind the door or is it a bug?

That code on the screen is a piece of narrative art! Sad I had no time to read it when playing. The good part is I have a video! :D

The game is hilarious, buggy and fun! Art style is done notably well, so coherent and nice looking. Code's color scheme looks a bit out of place, though. Also, that scrollbar should drink less coffee, it's so sensitive, holy cow!

Check out my playthrough. It could also be a documentary of my entire life. :D

Lol guys! This is exactly like my standard workday only in The Simpsons colors :) That was hilarious! Also, someone apparently had a lot of fun writing that code ;) It's obvious you wanted to make a game that make us smile:) That's very kind of you! Thank you!

Lovely game, honestly I found it pretty relaxing!
It was definitely a little buggy though, and some of the item collision shapes felt a little clunky.
Two items broke and I couldn't fix them, and then the game ended kind of suddenly a while after?

Still a blast being able to play one of your LD entries for the first time! I always love your post-mortems :)

Good entry

Very cute. I played the browser version and found the controls a little hard to use (scroll didn't work, had to use mouse to move through code and the sensitivity was high), but had fun overall! Great job!

Very good idea.

Guy's if you have seen his videos you understand why this game was made.

Now I know they may have a video for this one. I can't wait to see it.

Love this entry! The code is pretty funny and is full of funny references! A view points of feedback:

- I clicked the door and it opened, but is was shut at the same time (graphical glitch?)
- I could not figure out how to water the plant
- Maybe it would have been nice that you could scroll with the scrollwheel trough the code, althouh this made it much more challenging ;-)

Graphics are great and the music sounds just like the background music I experience when coding :P

The worst bug of them all is of course forgetSnacks(k9).

It's a very nice little game. There are a few issues, like the progress bar on the phone sometimes being off-screen (that thew me for a bit), but overall it works well. Some of those bits of code are great!

The rage I felt against the printer after multiple play throughs was completely accurate :D

Very cute graphics as well, great fun overall

Wonderful artwork and so many amazing details! (Look in the code!) The web version is a bit glitchy :/ I could not interact with any distraction besides the spider, and the door glitched out. Maybe because I was playing in Opera? You put a lot of effort in the main menue (and it looks amazing!) but i wished for fewer bugs. (And I am not talking about the spider) Overall a very nice simpsons vibes maybe the ocasionally Doh! would have been nice. But not bad at all :)

A few bugs in the web version (played in chrome, couldn't interact with the lightbulb or the printer). The use of the theme was great and the atmosphere was a cool mix of chill and stressful.

This game felt very real. I also had a real simpsons vibe while playing the game. (not sure you were going for that art style, i just couldn't help feeling that way while playing it) This is so incredibly relatable because work really is like this! xD Gj you two

Cool idea, but at least in the web version clicking on most of the distractions didn't seem to do anything (the cursor changed so I assume I was clicking in the right place).

Nice idea, enjoyed it. But I never figured out how to fix the lamp, maybe just an issue with the web version.

So the game is quite nice, but buggy. Sometimes I would fix code with a watering can and other time I was unable to unequip paper. Not to mention that if you finish doing the main objective the game keeps going without any challenge. Plus, if you leave the printer for a long time you can still repair it, but it doesn't count that as a fix. Also, I think you forgot to disable music looping in the main menu, it sounds strange.

Except that, it's an overall fun little game, good job

Awesome use of code as a gameplay mechanics, super innovative, I've never seen that before. And that's quite a lot of creative errors you invented  the game is clean and beautiful, crisp visual design and music. I do wish we could scroll with the mouse wheel instead of using the scrollbar, I don't know if that's supposed to work or it's just on my side. All in all a great entry, good work !

Great game overall, I'm a fan of minigames with a variety of things to do, and this one fits the definition. In fact, it heavily reminds me of the game our team made a few jams ago called Ludum Factorum.

I would have loved to see the usage of the keyboard in some way, perhaps as a typing minigame where you had to type out actions you wanted to perform, to increase the variety of engagement from the player. Another thing I found was that the code scrollbar bugged out occasionally, and didn't take scrollwheel input, which was a minor source of frustration for me. Other than that, it was great!

Really fun game, the art and sound effects are fantastic and i really enjoyed it.
however what is the deal with that printer? also no matter how i finnish the day, it still says that the printer is jammed, no matter what i do, i fix it 50 times and its still jammed somehow

Absolutely loved all the little easter eggs throughout the code! Props to the IDE for being able to find errors in assembly code

Found the scroll bar a little finicky to use, would often skip over entire code segments by scrolling too quickly. But other than that small gripe, had a fun time! Great work!

Hey there!

That was really cool, I wish fixing bugs was that easy in real life :)
The art style, audio and mood all fit together super well. I love the humor in the code and the little spider.

All in all, a very cool submission. Good job!

Quirky little game. Very clever, meta idea. Pretty good game, although I swear I think every single damn bug, and make sure the printer is taken care of, and I **STILL** somehow miss a bug, and that completely-perfectly-fine printer somehow gets jammed EVERY, SINGLE TIME! Maybe I just have the worst luck in the world, or you're trolling us!

Music is amazing, pretty much the standard for anything Pixel Prophecy, the graphics are nice, and I definitely appreciate all the easter eggs found in the code. My favorite easter egg being this one:

![haha.png](///raw/a9d/e/z/4df2e.png)

Sure caught that one. So yeah, great work as always, and I look forward to the post-mortem ;)

My highest total score ~~curse that printer~~ is 130.

this is a great little game u got there!
I enjoyed it a lot :D

writing all that code for the game's screen must have kept you busy :P
is it the actual game's code?
I really enjoyed that - very fresh!

there's a few kwacks
like the door's 2 states overlap somewhat :P
I couldn't figure out how to fix the lamp
... or the printer... wait - just like in real life? might be intentional - u're off the hook, there ^^# hehe
the screen scrolling doesn't work on the web version (it scrolls the itch page ^^#)
and I couldn't click on the screen once i had finished my game and i wanted to click "back to menu" thingy

still - it's fresh, it's cute, it's very well-finished
great job, keep it up - take care, man :D

Amazing art and music! The game looks just incredible -- I really really like the art style. The game is also basically a documentary, it perfectly captures the experience of trying to be productive while programming :D.

Super fun I really enjoyed it! I got all but one bug! The browser version the scroll wheel doesn't seem to work, which made it really hard to get to the other bugs, grabbing the scroll bar works, but not very well when trying to skip around. Otherwise really really fun!

This was both fun and funny! I enjoyed that the mechanics were easy to understand, and you could just jump in and start playing. It was also a good take on the theme.

I noticed quite a few jokes in the code. Wish I could have slowed down a bit to read more of them.

I was not a fan of the scroll bar. It was quite tough to hover over. If there was a way to capture the scroll wheel, as well as make the scroll bar larger, it would have been a more enjoyable experience.

PC LOAD LETTER? What the f*ck does that mean?

Nice game, it was fun to play, and I enjoyed the funny bits in the code! :D I'll check out the source code to read the whole thing.

The atmosphere is top-notch, the music fits the art style well.

It's very straightforward to play, except two things: I couldn't figure out how to fix the lamp and the phone when its screen is shattered. Clicking on it did nothing. But maybe that's an issue of the browser mode.

Anyway, nice entry as always, can't wait to see the devlog  the last team project was fun to watch!

Cheers!

@erkberg I am three years late (!!) but I finally watched your playthrough! All valid points about the scrollbar sensitivity and the bugs 🙈 Glad you enjoyed the "code" in the game. And don't worry, some references are very niche in-jokes. Thanks for the kind rating as well!
