Force of Wheel by qzqxq

[raw]
made by qzqxq for LD36 (JAM)
This game is meant to be played with two people at the same keyboard. You both start off as triangles, and compete in a series of simple minigames. If you win a minigame, your polygon gains one side. To win, get to 8 sides.

Note: We originally brainstormed some ideas in which you started off as a triangle and eventually became a wheel (or circle), which turned into this. It doesn't relate much to the original theme, but you can imagine some backstory in which a bunch of shapes are competing to become the first-ever wheel. This game also uses a lot of mathematics/physics, which I'd say is a prime example of ancient technology. :P This is also the first game we've ever made, so we hope you have fun and would love any feedback.

Controls

Player 1/yellow polygon: WASD

Player 2/green polygon: arrow keys

Nice game, I would prefer it if the WASD moved them in that direction instead of turning and then moving forward. The turning made it a little hard to play. But overall good job.

Split-keyboard games are cool by definition!
p.s. Got the same minigame like 3 times in a row, either a bug or just luck - you could fix the randomizer not to choose last value i suppose.

Really nice little arcade game! Would be nice to have more different minigames (I only experienced two - is there more?). Good job!

@SMASH BASH That's a very good idea. I think the randomizer is working as intended, but it's just that true randomness doesn't actually feel random.

@novotmike There are 4 minigames (push the other player off, collect 5 squares, do two laps around a track, and king of the hill). But now that you mention it, it's probably a good idea to guarantee that all minigames are seen in any given match, so if we work on this some more we'll put that in.

Good job! It's a fun game to play with your friends. I don't have anybody nearby that i could play with, but I'll definetly check it out with some of my buddys. You should add more minigames and make it so that you can't randomize the same minigame twice in a row.

Take a lot of fun playing with friend. Good job. But rotation of characters a slightly too fast, it's make it hard to control. Match result become more random than skill based.
Also, stuck on level with laps. Both players was trapped inside blue block somehow.

I like that it game for two players so much!
The game is pretty fun, but players movements to harsh for me (it was a bit confusing at first).
Good job.

nice coop game!, i've playing it with my sister for a while, forget to give a comment here lol
love the minimalistic and neon color aesthetic, the control a bit weird at first, but easily adapt to it, theres not much of mini game right now, at least i see repeatable almost every time, but for 48 hours game, this is really good :)

for your fist game it's a good job. hopefully you post the link between you game and ancient technology beacause it's really minimalist so you can think absolutely what you want XD
controlling the.... wheel prototype remember me of playing asteroid (absolutly uncontrolable but fun af). now I need to find someone to play with!
great job and continue like this! :)

i must say, a brilliant game, very neat idea, plain and simple with good execution
it felt like as if i was trying to navigate and drive a Beyblade (that toy that spin and battle other toys of same kind and stuff ) honestly :D
i honestly think it would be more fun with more players but its fun as it is. nicely done.

The only thing I would change right away, would be the rotational momentum. I would want to have instant turning and then instant stopping, to let me get good at the game. I like the art style. I liked the different game modes lots. Could do with more of course, but what you have is a good start.

Ha! I'd say it fits the theme very well, considering DOS-like or 4-bit games are like "ancient technology" to most of us with PS4s and iPhones.

Very cool idea! I love seeing what people can still do with such simple graphics.

Great job for a first game! The idea of trying to evolve faster then the other player is a cool concept.

What a fun little game! Unfortunately i was alone playing this game but even though i had a lot of fun. I like the minimalistic art. The only thing that was not that great was the amount of momentum. I bounced all over the place. I also got stuck in the blue box in the racing minigame once.

Cool concept. I like how you incorporated the basic movement code you had to suit multiple different objectives. There are certainly variables such as the movement and rotation speed that could be tweaked but overall good job!
