Defy Godwin by ivysly
Defy Godwin is a comedic work of interactive fiction and a realistic forum simulator.
Godwin's Law: As a discussion on the Internet goes on, the probability of a comparison to Nazis or Adolf Hitler approaches 1.
Amidst a war of rhetoric, you are but an internet forum moderator - the impartial paramedic of a digital battlefield. With a new corporate leadership buying out your home base @ Hyperlink Heaven, your mission is now to appease advertisers by preventing users from invoking Nazism (and thus Godwin's Law). Slap and exile in your vain attempt to stifle their discussions' inevitable conclusion. Use your wit and read between the lines to end these battles before they even start.

Really interesting take on the theme!
@miraculousmelon thank you so much!
@cryptomnesic first thing i did once we had the idea down was to build a tool for writing "post chains" (which turned into threads) and sent it to the other people on the team. this was a pretty risky move, as there wasn't even any "gameplay" until nearly the end of day 2. but approximately 2/3 of the total dev time was spent with me writing game code while my teammates simultaneously wrote dialogue, even before any of the mechanics were implemented. in retrospect this was a really good idea because we could be making content for the game independently of the game itself. we knew it had to have a lot of writing and characters, because of the nature of the idea. still, I'm really impressed with how much quality stuff my teammates managed to write - i was very busy programming and could only make a few chains myself.
Overall had a fun time though!
The game picked up fast and I found myself frantically skim reading the posts. I really enjoyed the different chat group themes and the writing for each. It's really punishing if you don't immediately slap someone, or maybe I just need to git gud.
@zakahrum @rschoellgen @boxedmeatrevolution @sheol thank you all for the advice! i am putting together a "post-jam" build that addresses many of your complaints. I'll upload it as a separate download soon, though i'm not sure if i should wait till the end of the jam for that...
The writing is great, really on point.
its perfect.
moderation is a futile effort and this simulates that very well
I'm not sure I understood the game, but it was fun reading the posts :)
Judges, make sure to select the zip with LD50 in the filename, as that is the "official" jam version!
This is actually pretty fun and feels really polished. My one complaint is I wish I could read the post that made me lose in the end.
