RUNOUT by RobLaro

Eat your little red bits to BOOST!
Help your next incarnation get further by dropping your little bits in a trail before your eventual demise. Just watch out where you drop your dead body!
Left stick or WASD to MOVE - Gamepad is recommended
My best record is 1085m
This was my first Ludum Dare and first 'finished' game! I switched my game idea halfway though like a doofus so I technically did this in 14hrs

Great concept and execution.
A few sound effects or music would have added a lot of punch to the gameplay loop I think.
Great entry and good luck.
It took some time for me to understand what the game was about. I started to just walk in a random direction and suddenly died without really knowing why, but thinking that I failed somehow. Of course, I did not fail and just paved the wat for next runs to get farther. Some kind of tutorial for this would have been nice :) (Maybe on the itch page?) Although I can also understand it if you want it to be up to the player to figure out what to do :)
I had a lot of fun with this! Great submission!
If the player's death and start animations skipped or sped up when you hit a couple of buttons it could make it that much more addictive to just constantly jump into runs after runs. Those animation are really interesting and breath a lot of life into the game, don't get me wrong, but after the second or third run it's just extra time I don't want to wait.
I think this doesn't really fit the topic because it doesn't really seem like an inevitable thing, just stay where you are and you will never die. Perhaps if there was an ending timer, and eating points would extend it or update it - it would fit better. But it doesn't really matter, just what I was thinking during the brainstorm.
I really enjoyed playing it!
And it fits very well the jam theme!
Congratulations!
P.S.: I think the mechanic has a lot of potential!
A good effort, especially for a compo game. You should give this game some more love after the jam, I really feel it could be something really fun with a bit more substance!
i really want to push for 1000 and even more. damn what a concept really genius idea! i feel like i am creating the obstacles for my future perfect run myself! it is great wish i played this earlier and had it on scorechasers tourney! so original and skillfully done!
