Nuts and Volts by MeeseAgainstHumanity

made by MeeseAgainstHumanity for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Nuts and Volts follows the adventure of a little robot named Dos-Bot trying to deliver a battery. Dos-Bot Idle.gif

He faces foes and challenges along the way and must keep the battery charged at all costs.

When Dos-Bot runs out of his health he starts draining from the battery he carries. Dos-Bot can recharge his main health but not the secondary battery. The Special EMP attack uses a charge of the second battery to wipe out most enemies around you.

Pretty fun game, but didn't see much connection to the theme. I wanted the green lasers to light up the area a little more, and I found myself rolling into danger more often than out of it - because movement options are fun.

Great entry.

Pros:
- It was super fun moving around the level the dash feel great.
- Sound really added to the experience and the music was perfect for this kind of shooter/dungeon crawler.

Cons:
- Would have been good if the battery slowly depleted or something to push the theme a bit more.
- The pink enemies were a bit hard to see - they didn't contrast against the floor that much.

There's a bug where if you shoot the hole, it'll trigger the level change.

Overall, fun game, nice work :)

Not bad overall, though visual feedback on enemies taking damage could be a bit better. Most of the enemies dying in one hit made it clear that they turn grey when they die, but I thought the big brute enemies that take multiple hits were just impervious to damage until I shot them enough.

I was a little confused about how the charge system worked, even after reading the itch.io page, but I got through fine regardless. There's a good level of polish and the controls feel nice. The music adds another layer of atmosphere as well. Didn't think the theme was super present in the gameplay, but I at least understand the thought process. Overall really good work, especially for such a short time frame.

Control in the game is good, it is pleasant to play. Cool music.

I was missing a few things:
1) At least some pumping or character development
2) Impact from damage to enemies.

This game looks and sounds great! This is one of the few from this jam that I actually beat. Didn't feel like death was very inevitable in this one, but I had a good time. Keep up the awesome work!

Super animated pixelart/lighting and dynamic soundtrack/effects - satisfying EMP effect. Good gameplay and control. Love the game title

Love the pixel art, the music, and the sounds of attacks here. The light moving with the lasers and illuminating the ground / enemies it passes over was a very nice touch! I think a great improvement would be an indicator of impact when the player or enemies get hit aside from when they explode -- like a screen shake or the laser colliding and exploding. Well done!

Great job, I found it hard to tell whether i actually hit an enemy or not, so I would add some sort of indicator for when your shots connect and make the dodge a bit more snappy, because right now I feel there is too much delay between the input and the actual dodge so I preferred to just strafe around the enemies

Fun entry. The audio and art was really good. Shooting felt a little clunky though.
