very cute game! i like the simplicity and i really like the artstyle and sound effects :> just wondering is the payment like fixed or is it actually inevitable because i think if the movement was smoother and the farming feedback was more clear (?) i would actually play something like this. nice!

@paperaeroplane555 thank you very much for the feedback, I sadly noticed this a bit too late, but I forgot to add an UI element that actually shows how much the next payment will be because it is actually increasing.

I love the Pokémon red / blue style of graphics that you manage to achieve in your game.

Also I rarely play / design games that are "turned based" because I like motion in games but the way of how your game works it is very interesting as it doesn't feel that your are playing "turn based" as you can act as fast as you want to, but at the same time you get the benefits of being able to stop and think.

Good job, thanks for this submission :)

The idea of a Rogue-style farming game is really interesting. I found this pretty addicting considering the limited options. It kind of seems like there's not much point upgrading the field much since the crops grow in the time it would take to plant in all the spaces anyway. Nice art style and execution. This is fun. Great job!

Nice farming game, i missed a feedback on the payment, because in the end i died farming my max sized field because i just went all out on shopping and didn´t seem to make enough cash back fast enough.
Also, the controls on keyboard are a bit hard to use if u want to "fast farm" x) i can see this being way more smooth on controller, or if u change the interact button to something like m.

Still a great entry, well done!

Good farming concept, it lack of sound when you buy items in the shop, and the objective is not clearly define, i made some money and....I see the icon with the skull but after the payement nothing happen so i continue to farm ;)

Love the gameboy aesthetic. Solid little farming game prototype.

I had a bunch of money, and only like 8 turns left until next payment, but no indication of how much money I needed. I rolled the dice and bought some more seeds but I was short when the payment came out so I lost. Some indication on what your upcoming payment is would help a lot with deciding whether to buy or just wait out the rest of the period.

Seems like i lost after 1000 turn :c But its a very productive bunny you got there. Very nice :)

As other said, it would've been good to know how much the next payment is

This is a ton of fun! I wish there was a indication of what would be charged. I went way past a thousand turns but just suddenly lost. It would be nice to know in advance. Love this game. Is there some media like discord etc where I can follow this game's progression? Again really great work here!

Very nice game you made here! It's fun to play, but for me it isn't that obvious how much I lose after my turns ends. (I havn't realised it)

I like this much! This is a cute game and i spend much time on it. Due to the lack of "how much for the next payment" indicator i kept on starting the game to earn an even bigger buffer of money to be sure that it is enough. Though it seems that there is an exponential rise to the next payment sum? Anyway: the turn-based limitation is very fun to think about the most effective strategy to plow and seed the field. I enjoyed playing your game a lot. Very well done! :-)

After farming to the 1000 turn...

Pros:
- Like the graphics. Immediate GB Pokemon vibes
- Clear objectives*
- Entertaining gameplay. I like that
- Difficult just enough for the player
- Rewarding for being cosistent (as farming should be)

Cons:
- Audio is nothing to write poems about. Actually, it's just the effects (was there any music at all here?)
- *Unfortunately, not clear what your next payment is going to be in terms of actual money. You can't prepare for the payment by paying strategically
- Not sure how Pokemon-like graphic come with the idea of having to create something 'on your own' for COMPO, but I believe there's a thin line between what's good and not.

Overall, a great MVP for farming game! I enjoyed playing it. Great job!

I'm a big fan of the visual aesthetic you achieved and the overall concept. The primary 'boing' sound effect did get a bit grating after a while and I wasn't 100% clear on the objective beyond the farming component. That said, absolute solid delivery for the timeframe!

This small farming is fun. I think to have a static camera instead of being focused on the character would be better. I love the simple graphics and sound. Could you add arrows key mapping to move?

Very fun game. Oddly cathartic considering I was trying to stave off bankruptcy. The art style also brings me back to my childhood playing the OG Pokemon games. Great job!

Hey I loved this game, like stardew valley mixed with oldschool pokemon graphics. Very fun and addicting. I wished I could use the arrow keys in addition to WSAD though, and I didn't see how much my payment was going to be.

:) Wow, very cool game! The concept is very simple, but the execution and balancing is excellent. I love the pixel art and animations. The few sound effects add a lot! A simple song in the background would be nice too! Who needs color--this is great! I played through a few times, and each time I died, I thought, "I'm pretty sure I could make it a lot further if I do _this_ next time...", which means you made something good here!

This would get sooo addicting for me, I love how it plays out, but I press buttons really quickly and when the turns run out I get a popup that I immediately close because I'm still in the loop of pressing buttons fast. So I have no idea what the popup says and then it looks like the game restarts? Too bad because it's good otherwise.

@jackaljk that is likely the game over screen, I bound the "restart the game" button to the default interaction key , probably not a good idea in hindsight.

It was really cool, like a jam job! The visual range is very pleasant, it's a pity that the amount to be paid is not visible. Maybe download an additional version with an added user interface? I would really like to test my capabilities by seeing the amount!
Great job! I want to go back!

Nice farming game. I could not get past the 80K payment... Managed to get 76K and change. If I had not made mistakes on some moved I suppose I would have made the 80K but not sure how to make the 100K.
One bug.. after bankruptcy if you start the game again the payment is at the next value (-100K in my case) until you make the first payment.

Okay the game... fun game, it is really about optimizing your moves to earning money. It is easy enough to figure out a pattern of moves to minimize the number of non-paying moves. I did not experiment too much with increasing the field size, increase productivity, etc. as I had a pattern down where the trees were ready for harvest again by the time I completed one cycle. Maybe I missed purchasing bufs that could have made it easier to get past 80 and 100K... but as the game says bankruptcy is inevitable.

Great LD entry. Love the monochrome graphics, simple sounds, etc. Fairly well balanced. Would love to see how this develops further.

@wasteofammo thanks for the bug report, the UI didn't properly initialize after restarting the game (although it would work fine after you paid the first loan which was still 5k). This also made me realize that the numbers are kinda hard to read because the 80k one actually had a typo and the game wanted 800k instead (Whoops!), so I pushed another update adressing these issues here: https://atomicptr.itch.io/farming-until-bankruptcy [(Changelog)](https://github.com/atomicptr/ld50/releases/tag/v1.2.0)

Upgrading the field unlocks some separate upgrades like 25% faster growing time for plants and 25% more money for selling them. Though they get kinda hard to fully utilize .

What a charming little game! This was really well done. Really nice art, good amount of polish and smooth gameplay. I missed the dialog that presumably told me of the failed payment because I was spamming E for farming. Maybe a different key to clear the dialog would have been ideal. Not much else to say really. This was pretty neat! Love the black and white theme.

This game reminds me of when I wanted to build my farm. It required a great enough desire. As well as possession of communication skills and knowledge of agriculture. All this I had but no capital to start a business. So I had to find out how to get a loan from a bank. This procedure is quite complicated and has many pitfalls. Therefore, to avoid making a mistake, I decided to take the advice of Mortgage Advice Leicester(https://Leicestermoneyman.com). Now I have picked the best offer from the bank and am looking for seed suppliers. I think that in a year or two, I will be able to earn a large enough capital.
