Waiter Tray by Ramil Dev

[raw]
made by Ramil Dev for Ludum Dare 50 (COMPO)

-- How to play --

Place objects on the tray to maintain balance as long as you can. If the golden bottle falls from the tray the game is over. Every object has 4 seconds to be placed, or it will place itself! Each object placed increases the place cooldown.

-- Controls --

-> rotate camera - A, D keys

-> choose place position - mouse

-> place object - left click

I did not manage to add menus nor highscore view (there's a link to the tables on the game page), but I'm happy it's playable. Game jams are tougher than I expected :D Thanks for playing :)

Couldn't get more than 20 points. What's the optimal strategy here I wonder? I think it would be easier to plan ahead if there was an outline of the object I'm about to place as I assume they have different weights.

I managed to get 32. It was fun to play, gets chaotic fast, but overall good game.

Nice work! An interesting variation on the "as long as you can" interpretation of the theme -- making the game about balance is relatable and realistic. Having a time constraint forces suboptimal moves which then require corrective action, which I thought was a fun way to introduce chaos to the game. I wish I could tilt the camera up and down a bit too. It's cool that I can check highscores recorded by other players! (I contributed mine, 78, too).

@vilmantas Yes they have different weights, the bottle is the heaviest and the glass the lightest. In regards to the strategy, I like to place as close as possible to the center as (I think) it adds stability and prevents the wine from tilting. Thanks for the feedback!

@badoomtch Thanks for playing!

@stasm Thanks for the feedback and congratulations, you hold the world record :)

Nice. Got one 49 and then over 50 but didn't submit. It's very cool, I didn't read the instructions so at first I was just spamming objects, but then it became easier once I did. Very cool and simple graphics.

Nice game. I like to imagine waiters have to train on this. This could make a cool vr game too!

Cool concept! I got stuck around the 30 point mark but might come back later to try to get higher :) I like that the things on the tray also bump into each other so once you get a full tray you have to make sure you don't accidentally knock everything over, it added an extra layer of complexity.

Love it. It's.... I mean, it's so simple. The stuff I'd suggest changing is cosmetic, really, mostly. Although I personally would prefer the game to last 10-15 seconds longer minimum. Tough game, good idea, good execution.

Wow! Great concept and highly playable. And fun! Only wish it was an optional faster way to rotate the camera.

Very well done!

Cool idea! I like that the objects have different weights, makes you think where to place them instead of spamming them around the tray. Great job!

Neat concept! Sometimes it felt like I was doing better only to actually do worse. Leader boards made me want to keep trying to get a better score.

Some sound effects when placing the objects might have been a nice addition. I think some tense music could also have really added something.
