The Pit by ZwodahS

[raw]
made by ZwodahS for Ludum Dare 50 (COMPO)

The Pit is a deck losing game where you deplete your cards as you go down the pit. Eventually you will run out of cards, but before that, how deep can you go ?

Had a LOT of fun with this one! The little card movements helped me jump right in like it was a game I'd been playing for ages. Big fan of the main mechanic and I loved the ramping difficulty. (remind me to come back and rate when the deadline hits)

Made a misplay at level 26 and died against my first Greater Dragon. Lovely game! Will definately come back and play it again.

Lovely game, with some fleshed out card art I'd def be into something like this.

Very fun and fresh card game. Also very polished considering the time available!

Really liked it, I got a bug that sent a million dragons at me. The initial card was stuck and just kept sending me dragons over and over.

It was just dragon after dragon and pain after pain :') Great game nonetheless!

Thanks all for playing ! @mook I ran out of time to deal with the end game, so I decided to just send Dragon after Dragon lol ...

Do give the game a follow, I am considering making a extended version after I am done with my current game.

Cool little game, a bit of a bummer that there was no sound or music though. And it would've been a nice addition to add little pixelart images of the enemies on the cards.

Cool concept I haven't played many games like this before this specific jam!

This was a nice card game! It didn't take too long to grasp how to play, and was fun to play all the way through until you had seen every monster (or at least I think I did see everything).

Feedback would be that running from enemies should require two cards, otherwise you can just run infinitely, pick up cards from a camp and then just continue from there. I also noticed that if you spam click the search button, the findings will stack and you'll go forward one extra level per click, so you can basically glitch your way to infinite levels+cards.

@jefvel Nice bug. yeah there are quite bugs that I didn't manage to find. I think running requires 2 cards right now, but I might be wrong. but yeah, the game is not really that balanced.

I left spaces to draw in the artwork but I kind of ran out of time towards the end.

Thanks all for playing

Really fun card battler here! Nice depth to strategising about how to make the most of the camps on top of when the best time is to use up cards vs. ending your turn and taking damage. Visually it's really clean and looks great. Straightforward to pick up as well which is a real plus!

I've spent the whole day rating games, and this has the best balancing I've seen! Great difficulty curve and balancing of stats, I ended up with only pain cards at the end which I should have made sure to chuck earlier (I love the difficulty they add!).

This was a creative take on the theme and the balancing was on point! It never felt tipped in my favor or the game's and provided a good 20 minutes of fun

Nice card game! I really like that there are multiple levels to every decision, like whether to sacrifice health, or cards etc! The game looks great. I would have liked some ambient music and some sound effects.

Haha, pretty fun! However, it doesn't seem like my failure is inevitable...I got to depth 60 before I stopped out of boredom after slaying dragon after dragon after dragon...

There was a bit in the middle where I was running low on resources and cards, but I got out of it just fine and managed to sustain pretty much indefinitely. The wound cards felt bad but were much more manageable than I first thought given the other mechanics, and also given that they are destroyed after only 1 use. I guess you can get screwed by RNG if you fail to pick up cards of a given type (e.g. no heals), but that didn't seem to happen to me, fortunately.

This is fun. The cards are simple enough to pick up without needing a guide, but complex enough to make you think about when is best to use them.

Simple and effective, I could quickly learn how to play.
Not sure if there is an interest to fight against beasts like the dragon since they have so many HPs...
Perhaps I could have some choice on the cards I earn againt monsters, so I can build a deck with some strategy? And what about a combination of cards? (like if played after pain, damage++, or stuff like that)

Love card games, so was instantly hooked.
A bit more variety in cards and enemies would make this game an instant hit in my opinion!
Great execution, however the game is a bit easy.
Great effort and good luck!

Nice game! Enjoyed giving some thought about tradeoffs. Was overrun with wounds, some more card destruction would've been nice to play with (or enemies with that ability).

Neat! I got got by the second Greater Dragon, but I could maybe have lasted a little longer with more careful play.

Absolutely love card games, and had a great time with this one! Would have been nice to have the option to pick which cards to add to your deck (like in Slay the Spire) instead of just getting random ones, as that way there could be a bit more strategy (eg picking more of the wound producing cards if you have some destroy cards). Would also help with the problem I faced of not being given any healing cards towards the end of the game, but perhaps I should have used the "Prepare" option a couple of times instead of the "Search" option at the fireplaces..

Great game!

@ddrkirbyisq really ? that's nice. I did some quick math to make sure it shouldn't be possible to infinite, but I guess some of my calculation is wrong.

@lukuluk @hulien22 Kind of wanted to do card selection, but I ran out of time. That's kind of the staple for card games.

Thanks all for playing!

This is a really good concept for a game! It would be nice if there were some different types of enemies which have different abilities, instead of just different health and damage. I found out that if you run out of cards, you can just keep pressing "run" and progress to the next level. Good job on the game!

Not so innovative but yet effective and interesting cards mechanic, I managed to reach 39th depth and take over 14 dragons. Good job!
